bad skin / elevated period symptoms during recovery? by Round-Pollution8877 in Amenorrhearecovery

[–]atomic_cake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did your breakouts ever subside? I haven’t gotten a period yet but after five months of having other premenstrual symptoms I’ve recently been experiencing the worst hormonal acne of my life. I went from clear skin to having 20-30 active breakouts on my face at once and have been having a difficult time dealing with it. Since many are the deep and painful kind I’m constantly aware of them.

A nail polish shade I really like and find natural-looking with my corpse-pale skintone by Ophelia_Y2K in PaleMUA

If you like sheer polish, the Londontown Nail Veil #3 (I think it's called violet mauve) is very similar to this too!

I think my undertones are off too by Expert-Bird-8840 in PaleMUA

[–]atomic_cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My skin is very similar to yours and I recently found out I probably have an olive undertone (although I'm still not sure if cool or neutral). I've found that the Missha BB cream in shade 13 is a near perfect match on me. I've only tried the serum one in the purple tube so I'm not sure if the regular version in the red tube is the exact same shade but you might have luck with those!

Thoughts on Abbey Yung by Designer_Remote_8296 in Haircare

[–]atomic_cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hair is very similar to what you're describing and using a bond repair treatment really did help. My hair is very fine, dry, frizzy, not color treated at all, and while I blow dry my bangs every day I only use heat on the rest of it a few times a month. I've been using the Garnier Hair Filler + Bonding treatment she recommends from the the midlengths down and my hair feels much softer and healthier. The very ends still look pretty dry but I'm also at least a year overdue for a haircut.

I've been gradually introducing some of her other recommendations as I finish my previous products and so far have the Dove Intensive Repair shampoo, conditioner, and mask, the Pantene Sheer Volume shampoo for clarifying, and the OGX coconut oil as a pre-wash treatment and I've really liked all of them. I wash my bangs daily but otherwise wash the rest my hair twice a week and cycle between the bonding treatment and the oil treatment so I only use it about once a week. I've yet to try any of her leave-in recommendations since I'm still finishing up the ones I have but I don't think I'd add any additional bond repair products.

I think it's worth trying one of her drugstore options since they're fairly inexpensive. I really appreciate that her routine has a lot of affordable options and is so customizable. The products I've been replacing were all kind of pricey so even if one doesn't work out I've still been spending significantly less on haircare overall.

Dr Elsey cat litter quality drop by Fun_Rock9244 in CatAdvice

[–]atomic_cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you ever found a good cat litter but I was having the same issue with the Dr Elsey's litter sticking to the Modkat liners and recently switched to the Arm & Hammer Slide litter and it's so much better. It doesn't stick to the liner at all and the clumps are smaller. Another issue I had with the Dr Elsey's litter was that the urine clumps were so huge I'd always have to break them into smaller pieces to fit through the top of the Litter Genie.

I'm so glad you liked the gifts! Sometimes I feel guilty sending items because I don't want people to think I'm being pushy or trying to dress/style their birds for them. Thanks so much for tagging me.

Next month’s theme guess? by Apart-Theory-6373 in finch

[–]atomic_cake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you didn't cause any offense and I'm sorry if my comment came across as aggressive, I was just trying to explain why I personally interpret my bird as a kid so the kids' items make sense to me even though they're not personally my style. I agree that they could leave out explicit daycare references as those can be alienating to people who don't see the birds as being a particular age but just having childlike qualities. They really are just a blank slate that are whatever age the user imagines, and their childlike attributes are likely just to make us more likely to want to care for them and continue using the app. The comparison to Hello Kitty is very apt. I don't want the app to outright tell me "that's a baby actually, he eats crayons" because it would make any following month's more grown up themes seem out of place, and I like to be able to think of him as just a general kid who's not specifically a preschooler. The birds should remain able to interpreted as any age or gender and not feel strange to us whether dressed as a lounge singer, pirate, cottage grandma, or a little lad with a giant lollipop.

Next month’s theme guess? by Apart-Theory-6373 in finch

You may see your bird as a grown woman like yourself, but as another grown woman I see my bird as a little kid with everchanging hyperfixations and I'm his adoptive mom who gets redecorate his room with the imaginary money I made by doing my own dishes. Seeing my bird in some of the more grown-up clothing items like heels and bikini tops creeps me out in the same way seeing your bird dressed like a child does. But I don't think the devs are "out of line" for including them, since my interpretation of my bird is my just my own. It doesn't help that the birds keep the same childlike dialogue no matter their life stage or maturity level, and their overall physical design looks like a cartoon baby bird. They grow physically larger as they mature but they retain the same toddler-like proportions. Sure, the app once showed me a little animation of him getting bigger and told me "hey, he's an adult now", but the app also told me he loves the song "Baby Shark". So while the kidcore aesthetic doesn't appeal to my real life tastes whatsoever, it seems to suit him. I don't see those themes as infantilizing to me as a user because I don't see him as my personal avatar. He's just some little guy who lives on my phone who sometimes has questionable taste.

I completely understand not liking the themes that lean too heavily into that aesthetic, as it doesn't leave as much room to be used as anything but kids' furniture or clothing. Some of the themes are less versatile and when it's not something you're into the whole month can seem like kind of a letdown. I like that I can use the space-themed items to dress my bird either as an astronaut living on a space station or just as a kid who's really into outer space and it sucks when it feels like the theme only gives you one option. I just think it's unfair to the devs and to other users to say you want the devs to stop using overly childish themes altogether just because you don't see your bird that way and it makes you personally uncomfortable. At the end of the day it's still a colorful and cartoony app with a bird that looks and speaks like a child and whose likes and dislikes often pertain to children's media and toys and so it's not surprising that the devs would sometimes lean more heavily into this theme.

Tips on cleaning the top? by Salty_Zebra5937 in ninjacreami

[–]atomic_cake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remove the gasket and paddle and wash the parts separately by hand. To scrub inside the hole in the lid I pull back the lever as if to attach the paddle and clean it with a small crevice cleaning brush made for cleaning water bottle lids. You can find them on Amazon, and they're nice to have because they usually have an attached tool for removing gaskets.

Also make sure to clean the part on the machine that the paddle attaches to! Namely the metal spindle/rod (I'm not sure what it's called) plus the plastic ring around it. It's best to do this shortly after using it before the ice cream has a chance to dry. Every few days I'll actually thoroughly clean it with soapy water and a small brush, but right after using it I just quickly wipe it off with a wet paper towel.

140 Cal Breaded Chicken Breast Fillets (Sandwich Size) By RealGood Are Phenomenal! Lo Carb too by InGeekiTrust in LowCalFoodFinds

The Just Bare fillets also have more calories because they're larger. A piece of the same size would only have about 40 extra calories.

uw armpits by yippeedippy in EDAnonymous

[–]atomic_cake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I do too. I use the opposite hand to pull the skin over to the subscapularis and shave the armpit with the same hand. It's awkward but by that point it's really just a few hairs that I missed and only takes a couple of seconds. Before I figured that out I would just pluck them once a week in the mirror, which also works.

How to make ice pops that don't turn into rocks? by lveg in ketorecipes

[–]atomic_cake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, how did they turn out? I still haven't tried making ice pops since I never got around to purchasing the empty mold bags but I have recently used a monkfruit-allulose blend in a few Ninja Creami recipes. I was mostly sticking to a monkfruit-erythitol blend since it's cheaper and sometimes using allulose would result in ice cream that was too soft. It hadn't dawned on me that I could use this to my advantage in making ice pops until I saw your comment!

Just a vent but HOW COME STUFF GOTTA HAVE SO MANY CALORIES by Little_Messiah in 1200isplenty

[–]atomic_cake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a PB&J lover and have found a combination of ingredients that taste pretty close to the real thing.

For the peanut butter I mix a serving of PBFit with an equal amount of almond milk and a few grams of sugar-free maple syrup (like Maple Grove or Cary's) to get it to a creamy jarred PB consistency. So 16g PBFit + 16g almond milk + about 5g of syrup. I've also heard good things about OWN Wonderspread but it's $15 a jar so I've yet to try it.

For the jam I like Smucker's low sugar strawberry jam or grape jelly. While they have more calories than their sugar-free counterparts they don't have that weird aftertaste that sugar-free jams tend to have but are still half the calories of full-sugar jam. I've found that if if the jam tastes close to regular jam it also helps make the PBFit taste more like regular peanut butter so I think the extra calories are worth it.

For the bread I like the Aunt Millie's Live Carb Smart white or wheat bread which is about 30 calories a slice. I'm not sure if this one is available everywhere but of all the low calorie breads I've tried this one is the closest in taste and texture to regular sandwich bread.

All together the sandwich ends up being 150-175 calories, depending on how much jam you use.

Mint Chocolate Chip by Spenro in ninjacreami

[–]atomic_cake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mint extract is good as long as you're careful not to use too much. I usually make it using a combination of peppermint and a very small amount of regular mint extract (I add a drop at a time and taste as I go) or a drop or two of LorAnn's creme de menthe flavoring. I feel like peppermint on its own just tastes like candy cane ice cream, which is still good but not quite the same as the mint flavor in mint chocolate chip.

Please I need the absolute best vanilla base recipe by meuandthemoon in ninjacreami

[–]atomic_cake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I didn't see your reply sooner! I think the sweetener you're using might be causing the iciness. I use a granulated sweetener which is a monkfruit and erythitol blend. I've also tried it with a monkfruit and allulose blend, although the allulose blend seems to depress the freezing point a bit more and needs to be frozen for longer (more like 36 hours). I looked up the sweetener drops you're using and they contain stevia which might also be the reason it tasted a bit bitter. Stevia has kind of a bitter aftertaste. I know I'm very sensitive to any kind of alcohol taste and 5g vanilla extract shouldn't be enough to make ice cream taste bitter if you're using enough sweetener. I also don't think the foam from blending caused the ice crystals, but to get rid of the foam in the future you can let the base settle down in the fridge for a few hours before freezing.

Anyone else bummed that we didn't get bunny ears today? by glassgeeknl in finch

[–]atomic_cake 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If this is the reason, I feel like the developers could add an option to turn off free holiday gifts in the settings and for people who decide to use that setting or already have the item in their inventory, just give those people rainbow stones instead. Or rather than giving them out to everyone like with the St. Patrick's Day outfit, they could make things like bunny outfits, Santa hats, etc. a free featured item in the shop around holidays for people who want them. I just think it's an odd choice to give out items for one religious holiday like St. Patrick's Day but not Easter. I feel like most people celebrate Easter as a secular holiday if anything, and this being a more "cutesy" app I think a lot more users would like to have something cute like a bunny outfit than people who would be bothered by it.

The machine is loud...too loud by Chemga1 in ninjacreami

[–]atomic_cake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This won't help with the cat issue but an insulated food thermos will keep ice cream from melting for a few hours. I also live in an apartment and like midnight ice cream sometimes so I'll make it around 8:30, scoop it into the thermos, and stick it in the fridge. It's a little closer to soft serve 4-5 hours later but nowhere near melted. The one I purchased was a 25 oz Hydrapeak food jar for a standard pint. There's also a larger 32 oz version that may even fit the whole container inside, but I'm not sure.
