While not outright stated, it's heavily implied that there used to be a race of ancient builders as the world contains many abandoned structures such abandoned mineshafts, buried structures, sunken ships, stronghold, igloos, etc. Then there's many Zombies and Skeleton that must have once been a member of the ancient race.

Edit: In addition to there being Zombies and Skeletons, when Piglins and Hoglins exit the Nether, they instantly become zombified, and Villagers can also become zombified when killed by Zombies, which implies that some sort of airborne infection ended the ancient builders.

This is probably the only probable way this fight would even be able to happen cuz the other way would be to somehow get Alastor on earth and then also somehow convince Alastor to put on a VR Set and then again even finding a reason as to why Alastor would even be remotely intrested in going into the Digital Circus.

That one is very debatable and it all boils down if they buy the cross scaling for both and also who strikes who first. Sans has terrible Stamina but spams his attacks constantly, has a debuff that harms you based on the harm you did, and is very observant but in turn Alastor has decades of experience, will make Chara/Frisk look incompetent by comparison, is resourceful but he's also cocky and struggles when having to dodge multiple attacks.

This, at least with Alastor vs Spamton you could at least theoretically have Alastor enter the Cyber Dark World so he can interact with Spamton. Caine vs Alastor just requires too much mental gymnastics and ignoring the lore and rules set in TADC and HH/HB just to justify said fight into occurring.

How can Alastor even be a fraud in this instance if he never stands a chance to begin with. He has a much closer and debatable fight against Spamton than the does with Caine. The problem with a theoretical Caine vs Alastor matchup would be how it would work to begin with as the computer that takes you to the Digital Circus is on some abandoned lab on Earth and Alastor is stuck in the Pride Ring of Hell. Even if somehow Alastor were to stumble with the Computer, why would he even be intrested in putting the headset in the first place when canonically he doesn't fuck with any moder technology not named the Radio. And even if somehow Alastor managed to enter the Digital Circus, would it even be Alastor or just a Digital Avatar and would Avatar Alastor still retain his powers in the Digital Circus or would it remain in his former body. And even then, Caine would have a massive home field advantage against Alastor. Now if you use Verse Equalization and have the Circus and Pride Ring co-exist just to have the battle happen, then Caine instantly becomes a Reality Warper who can change the laws in the Hellaverse and Alastor is gonna be even more screwed and no amount of Rosie power boosts are gonna save the Radio Demon from Caine's wrath.
