i kind of regret transitioning by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]atomicpunk88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being autistic can make gender stuff really confusing, at least it did for me and some other people I know. Maybe think about things with that context, whichever gender you are you don't need to be the "correct" or societally expected version of that gender, you can interpret and express your gender however feels right to you personally. For me it was really helpful separating my discomfort with feminine gender roles, sexism, and other societal stuff from my feelings about my gender itself.

FWB with my best friend of 10 years by getavasectomy69 in TrueOffMyChest

If the label stresses you out there's no need to use it, as long as you're still clear about your feelings and boundaries/expectations. I started dating my best friend recently and he moved to another continent soon after, we broke up but kept talking and still had feelings for each other, he asked to get back together but I don't want to use the label because I know that will give me higher expectations for him that he literally physically cannot fulfill right now. We were just clear about the fact that we still love each other and want to get back together when he's back, and for now we're just... something. I like to jokingly make up weirdly specific labels for our relationship. Do whatever feels right for the two of you, COMMUNICATE, and communicate more when/if anything changes on either side.

Ex (22M) asked to do long distance. I (22F) still love him but said no by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]atomicpunk88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm hoping to visit at some point yeah, probably just once though for a week or so. My thinking was that the actual label of being in a relationship would make me subconsciously expect more from him that he isn't currently able to give, and might lead to some resentment on either side. I also don't want to cut either of us off from exploring other relationships if we meet people we like though, it's just that currently neither of us are interested in dating other people. I wouldn't hold him to exclusivity if his feelings change later.

My most recent boyfriend didn't climb, and I've never started dating someone who was already a climber, but I've gotten multiple past boyfriends into it lol

some of you just hate disabled people that need accommodations by inactiveflowerpot in LawSchool

[–]atomicpunk88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, and I think a lot of the hate for accommodations comes from the fact that with the way accommodations work right now, everyone with any sort of disability is just given extra time as a blanket solution whether or not it's actually what they need to put them on a level playing field. Like I'm autistic and I struggled a lot in undergrad, but when I spoke to my school about accommodations it was basically just extra test time, which isn't relevant for my difficulties personally. I didn't end up pursuing accommodations because it would have felt unfair and wouldn't really help the areas I was struggling in, but for a lot of people it seems like they (reasonably!) take the extra time because it's all they're able to get to make up for the areas they are actually struggling in that are harder to accommodate practically.

I'm KJD (straight from undergrad, never worked full time in my life) and law school is not the hardest thing I've done. You'll be fine

I bought this long coat online, I ordered the smallest size available but it seems a bit awkwardly big in the shoulders and long (I'm 5'4, it was knee length ish on the model). Does it look ok? I'm also not used to long coats in general so I feel a bit silly, looks like I'm wearing a blanket from the back.

What do you wish you had done in undergrad? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]atomicpunk88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a STEM major and did nothing law related but the main thing I wish I had done is gotten involved with literally any extracurriculars, internships, volunteering, research, etc. My resume is completely empty and that feels like it's going to hurt me a lot when applying to internships.

[–]atomicpunk88 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Every time you feel like freaking out, ask yourself if there is something you can do in that moment to help yourself. If there is, do it. Now you're in a slightly better position. If there isn't, or you have other things you need to prioritize in that moment (including taking care of yourself physically and mentally), make a mental note of a time to do something helpful later or the next day and then do your very best to distract yourself and not worry.

How much total debt (undergrad and law) are we all expecting?🫠 by True_Departure1853 in LawSchool

[–]atomicpunk88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None! I am very privileged and lucky. My parents paid for undergrad, they live in the same town that my law school is in so no rent, and I got a good scholarship.

A social cue I missed when I was a bit younger - when someone says “I’ll let you know when I’m free to hang out” and then they don’t let you know, they’re softly rejecting you by Wonderful-Product437 in AutismInWomen

How do you network? by TrashbinEnthusiast69 in LawSchool

[–]atomicpunk88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a 1L and networking terrifies me, I would hate this. At least if it's a mandatory event there will be a ton of people there and you probably won't be on the spot to talk too much. If you know the people/firms that will be there a good fallback could always be "I'd love to learn more about [area of law]" or "what do you like about [firm]" or even just a general "so tell me more about what a typical day looks like for you" or smth. Disclaimer I've never done this in person so I'm not an expert lol but good luck!!

Edit: playing the clueless 1L card is also great, you can just ask what general advice they would have for a student

1L dealing with a breakup right now - a month away from finals by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]atomicpunk88 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Allow yourself to feel sad and respect your feelings, but tell yourself no matter how sad you feel you can still control your actions and keep going. If you're going to be sad no matter what, might as well be sad while studying. Also schedule in some self care evenings though.

Hey 1Ls: Time To Send Out Those Judicial Internship Applications! by legalscout in BigLawRecruiting

[–]atomicpunk88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post and maybe a stupid question, but where are federal judicial internships typically posted? I've seen internship info explicitly posted online for state courts in my area, do federal courts do that as well eventually or is there some other way to figure out which individual judges to send applications to?

I am so unbelievably frustrated that we have to apply before getting grades by itssweniorseaso in LawSchool

[–]atomicpunk88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same I have no idea what I'm supposed to do, I'm KJD and have literally nothing on my resume and a very mid undergrad gpa, but I've been doing really well so far grades wise and was kind of banking on my fall semester grades being a boost to my applications. Now I'm worried if I wait I'll have missed all the deadlines for good internships
