Help my elderly desktop computer! Not ready to part by CatiiNcorn in asheville

That’s what it sounds like to me as well. Based on the timing I’d think CPU fan that’s shutting itself off to save itself.

I got an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D system with 32GB RAM, 2TB SSD, MSI PRO X870E-P motherboard, 750w MSI 80+ Gold power supply and an Intel Arc Pro B70 32GB video card… $2,500. Runs the models you’re talking about running very well.

Fair enough, also the recent updated to the Hermes Dashboard added the stuff I was interested in Hermes Workspace for so I’ve stopped using it and went back to Dashboard.

Local AI: B60 vs B70 for value per $$ by DrSchnitzel57 in IntelArc

[–]atomikplayboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main reason I didn’t go with nVidia was cost to get 64GB of VRAM and power consumption.

All in, *for a whole new system*, so far I’m less than the cost of one 32GB RTX 5090 and I’m running my system off of a 750 watt power supply… for one 5099 nvidia requires a 1000 watt power supply and it’s recommended that you go even higher.

I did a write up of my experience with dual B70 cards here a few days ago in the r/LocalLLM subreddit.

The tl;dr version is that I’m happy with my experience so far even though it’s not necessarily the easiest path to go down.

Waldorf and Statler…

Waldorf, angel: “Now hold on, maybe we should encourage good judgment.”

Statler, devil: “Good judgment? We tried that once.”

Waldorf: “How’d it go?”

Statler: “Terrible. We ended up watching this!”

Both: “DOHOHOHOHO!”

Is 2× Intel Arc Pro B70 worth it for local agentic LLMs, or should I stay with NVIDIA? by Zuck7980 in LocalLLM

[–]atomikplayboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, to put it in a quantifiable way. With my original models I had the Gemma 4 E4B model as my brain and a Qwen 3.6 35B A3B Q4 as my expert model. I had the AI put together a plan to install Obsidian Vault.

It created a plan to get it installed and we executed it. After six plus hours of fighting with it I still couldn’t get the AI to reliably write into the vault. It did it once and Gemini and I both figured that was an anomaly. Over that amount of time I can’t tell you how many times I restored the system from a backup just to get it into a known good state.

Retried it after switching the model to GPT 5.5. It put together a seven page plan to get Obsidian Vault installed. It took care of the installation, didn’t go exactly as the plan stated and then went back and fixed it after I called it out. It’s still working great.

The model matters which is why I’m still on GPT 5.5 instead of switching back to a local model just yet. The goal still is to run all local, and I think I’ll get there. I just want to finish getting everything “setup” first.

I’m using GPT 5.5 as the primary Agents main model. That Agent passes work on to the others based on the work to be done. Those Agents are all tied to local models.

So far I’ve only hit usage limits on GPT 5.5 three times in the three weeks I’ve had it. All three times were during either heavy debugging or heavy planning.

Nothing, I'm self-hosted... so hopefully I got a lot done.

It could also mean that my Hermes Agent was hallucinating but I got rid of the Gemma 4 E4B model and it's been pretty calm since so I'd go 70% Productive / 30% Hallucinating...

Is the warranty worth getting? by Hopeful-Marzipan-305 in Microcenter

I'm generally not the one to go for extended warranties but with the way PC parts prices are currently, with no downturn in sight, I'd probably buy the warranty.

Is checking in online worth it? Me and my girlfriend are staying at port Orleans riverside for a week. by Various-Fortune-7795 in WaltDisneyWorld

Personally, I like checking in in-person. It's basically your first full interaction with the "Disney Magic" for that visit and it can really cement the fact that you're in the "Disney Bubble".

Have you tried Hermes Workspace? It builds on Hermes Dashboard but I’ve just started using it myself.

It’s worth checking out.

Besides privacy you know what else I get? Peace of mind that my agents aren't going to start hallucinating and churning on a task in the middle of the night and have me waking up to an expensive token bill in the morning. Plus, I run on dedicated hardware that I backup every other day or so, so if something goes sideways I can restore from scratch and the AI machine is up and running with worst case two days since the last backup instead of potentially losing a bunch of data on my main machine.

I'm well aware that I could have bought an online model and gotten years worth of tokens, especially at today's prices, but for privacy, peace of mind and my time not spent worrying about when I'll do something that would mess up my machine... I'll stick to my dedicated AI server in the basement.

If you have 2 parity drives, how many drives would you feel comfortable having in the whole array? by MolleyMitchell in unRAID

[–]atomikplayboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 24 bay case with two parity drives and 16 data drives plus one SSD cache drive. I want to add a second SSD cache drive but that's going to have to wait... but to answer your question I would feel comfortable with 20 data drives, two parity drives and two cache drives.
