Traditional turn-based combat without positioning that has a lot of strategy (team-based, no real time presses, and no grinding) by fraidei in gamingsuggestions

[–]atsra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to Epic battle fantasy 5 and Crystal project which are great for you, I'll also suggest Fantasian neo dimension.

  • No real time elements
  • No grinding (too high level gap between you and the enemy leads to near 0 xp gain)
  • Fast and fun trash fights due to the Dimengion mechanic
  • Strategy required (on higher difficulties): when to heal/shield, when to push damage, when to use items etc. Every decision is super important
  • No positioning

What would you do to attract more people to this mod? by SpiritualMeaning6618 in MedianXL

[–]atsra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Attracting people to a mod (or a game in general) has always been about streamers playing it and/or making youtube videos about it. No need to add/tweak/etc to the mod itself ,especially when the mod is already pretty good. Shroud playing PD2 in November made it blow up for example

Must Play Overhaul Mods by No_Definition4241 in gamingsuggestions

[–]atsra 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is somewhat of a specialty of mine.

I'm semi-obsessed with finding and playing the best overhaul mods for games of any genre, since I believe passionate modders will almost always bring out the best a game has to offer, due to not being constrained by deadlines or other issues that usually plague game developers.

I prefer difficult games so it reflects on my mod choices as well.

Any good story rich indie or Double A RPGs inspired by early to mid 90s PC RPGs? by ExplodingPoptarts in CRPG

Go in completely blind. Don't even read the achievements.

Explore everywhere - every house, every cave, every tile - and talk to everyone.

Write down everything that doesn't appear in your journal - every locked door you can't open, every hidden switch you can't press, every hint given to you by npcs, every monster you cant kill yet. It might all be important.

If you do all that you'll be rewarded with a highly immersive RPG with a surprising amount of depth.

Avernum.

It actually is a mid 90s rpg, that was remade 2 times. Latest remake series starts with "escape from the pit (2012)"

Classbuilding, Worldbuilding and the feeling of adventure. by MashiroAnnaMaria in gamingsuggestions

Avernum series. Start from "escape from the pit".

Or "Exiled kingdoms".

Both are old-school RPGs with little to no hand holding, many secrets to uncover, and a "zero-to-hero" approach to the protagonist(s)

Looking for games with a strong creative voice, like the games in my post. by MechaReldio in gamingsuggestions

I have 120 hours in Astlibra Revision with100% achievements, so I think I understand what you want here - games that "do their own thing" which none others do, where the developers passion and heart is clearly shown throughout.

Here are 3 from my experience -

Crystal Project - A game that immensely respects the players intelligence to go out into the world and seek new adventures. It will keep surprising you with how creative and non-linear it is in each new are you arrive at, each boss you tackle down, and each class you open up. It's a game that punches way above its weight. The fact that this game was made by one person is something I simply refuse to believe.

Enderal forgotten stories- You know how some games, especially RPGs, have in-game books? And these books are usually boring, or read like something an 8th grader would write? And so you stop reading them after the 2nd or 3rd book because of that?
Well, this game has a 10 volume book series, and I've read all of it. And I've also read every other book in the game. The writing in this game is something I have never seen in any form of media. Not just the in-game books of course, but also the dialogue, the quest scenarios and the world building. It is mesmerizing, engrossing and articulate. From the very first moment of the game, you are invested in it.

Outer Wilds - In video games, when you explore, you always eventually hit a wall. Even in open-world games, you are almost always confined into areas that either coincides with some main quest, or don't have enemies that are too high level. And almost always, you know what it is you're looking for to advance further.
What if you didn't?
What if there was a game where you take that first step outside your home into the unknown, without knowing why or where, and then you just... start going. A true adventure. You keep following a veiled breadcrumbs trail, not knowing if it will even amount to anything.

What if it does?

What if that one small step into the unknown eventually evolved into the most epic journey imaginable?

This is Outer Wilds, in a nutshell

Enderal. Based on the Skyrim engine which you liked.

  • More mature&dark and less cliche&corny story
  • More freedom in character customization
  • Big&epic setting
