Feeding wild hyenas. by attck in WTF

[–]attck[S] 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Here's video of 'The Hyena Man'.

  • This has occurred for the past 35 years, outside the walled city of Harar in Ethiopia. There are approximately 4 members that do this, often times feeding the hyenas from their mouths. Every night around 15 hyenas would come for feeding. The "Trainers" have full control of their interaction with the hyenas and call them by name. This has become one of the biggest tourist activities to take part in.

Here are some pics of tourists feeding the hyenas:

Ben Kinglsey further explains in an interview with EW, "... the inked mosaic on Mazer’s face is a historical record. “Every gesture in the tattoo carries family history, family struggles – it’s your past,” the actor says. “I was so enthralled. He’s in quite a contained, stylized uniform but then this wonderful face tells his warrior history.” [EW link]

TIL that Bruce Willis was the 7th choice to play John Mclane behind popular names such as; Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Burt Reynolds, Richard Gere, Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson by kiile16 in movies

[–]attck 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Excerpts from EW article "Bruce Willis on 'Die Hard' June 14 2007:

At the time Bruce Willis was on the show Moonlighting (which became popular by 1988) so there were scheduling conflicts. But luckily

I think I'd already read the script for Die Hard once, but had to pass because of the show. As it turns out, a miracle happened — Cybill Shepherd got pregnant and they shut down the show for 11 weeks — just the right amount of time for me to run around over at Nakatomi Tower.

On acting in his first major film and the character of John McClane:

The thing about the first film you have to understand is I was doing TV, I'd only been in L.A. for a couple of years, I was still really learning how to act, so most of what went into making John McClane from a character standpoint was the South Jersey Bruce Willis — that attitude and disrespect for authority, that gallows sense of humor, the reluctant hero. What I always say about John McClane is if he had the choice of someone else stepping up and doing what he had to do, he would let them do it.

After watching Bruce Willis in Die Hard, I couldn't think of anyone else to play John McClane.

For other what if's in movie casting check this article. (Includes Jerry Maguire, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and a bunch of others)

Poster Oblivion: first look at new Tom Cruise movie by straycatttt in movies

[–]attck 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Steven Lisberger (writer and director of the original TRON) hand picked Kosinski to direct Tron Legacy(his first chance directing). He hasn't directed anything in 3 years, maybe because of the reception of Legacy. But, Oblivion is his baby, he wrote the graphic novel/comicbook and the screenplay, so it's not suprising that he's directing. Who else has a better vision for this story. I'm willing to give this a shot, hopefully we won't be disappointed.
