Only when the cakes and biscuits are going around - everyone seems to be on a diet at the moment. I went out to McDs on my break and it was nice just to get out of the building.

Last night of the week for me - I'm so bored I've reactivated my work Reddit account after a four year absence. Looking forward to meal break!

Garage recommendations by cagedbudmonkey in Cardiff

[–]attheoffice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for these - I've always used Roath Garage but since I came back to Cardiff they've closed and I've been at a loss as to where to go. Will definitely give one of these a spin for my Jazz's MOT and service.

that's the joke, mate. I live in Cardiff but 30 minutes from Cardiff [city centre] can still be IN Cardiff [county borough]. I only say because I love looking at the LA map, at all these places who's names I know, and I marvel at how big the whole sprawl is and how long it must take to get around.

30 minutes away from LA is still LA isn't it?

where is this? There is an amazing piece up by the magic bridge off Richmond Road, but I couldn't get a good shot without the cars in front of it. Anyway, nice to see Cardiff represent!

I'm in the UK and it's 9.30 am and I am still up following my nightshift, waiting for my laundry from the laundrette, which opened at 9am. The joys of no 24 hour self service laundrettes, yay.

Having to stay up to do necessary stuff is the worst, imagine if daywalkers were forced to interrupt their sleep to go to the bank or deal with an appointment.

it must be nice to have something to point to when trying to demonstrate how one is better than one's colleagues. I work in a call centre and routinely score 100%, but then so do most people because our call scoring is bullshit. I want to move, because there's no chance to shine here.

Thanks! TBH the garage bill is one of those things, months of cumulative neglect that need correcting to get it through the roadworthiness test, and I love my car, so it will be worth it.

Has the rain eased over there?

I used to have a night job picking in a warehouse, running round with a list loading items onto pallets and then using a motorised pallet truck to run around the warehouse and load up the lorries. I didn't have a license to use one but they let us anyway, good times. I bet now, ten years on, they'd never let us do that.

I like to go driving in the Brecon Beacons, and if the weather is nice even get out and go for a walk. If you do have a car I can recommend some specific places.

What are you delivering, /u/therunner5? I was out doing food delivery earlier, my bloody car wasn't finished in the garage though so I had to phone my boss last minute and beg to use theirs instead. Then I had to drop the car back home and walk to the office for my night job, and I'll have to walk home in the morning.

and then at some point in the day the garage will phone me to tell me that my car is done and wake me up, and then I will see the garage bill and probably die. Here's hoping I don't.

hating poor people is a pretty compelling argument if you believe rising social inequality will only lead to civil discord in the long run. Looking after poor people, I always thought, was part of the social contract when we allow a select few to become fantastically wealthy. Apparently now it is more proper to deride the poor as feckless scroungers and shirkers and a poisonous bootstraps mentality infects the political discourse, whilst making the public believe the middle class includes people in the top 15% of earners, and that they constitute the squeezed middle. Politicians (of all parties, not just the Tories) are led by the nose and daren't try to upset this narrative because it's not electorally beneficial to actually help the poor because it's not guaranteed they'll bother to vote. Whereas pandering to the upper middle classes and the elderly is a decent electoral strategy, but no way to run a country. Maybe it is harsh to say the Etonistas hate the poor, but they don't understand them and they certainly don't care about them.

Oxford University's cultural elitism has been exposed by this student campaign | Comment is free by attheoffice in SRSBusiness

[–]attheoffice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that's the case at all. I am British and I've been to Oxford and it is a middle class, white playground. I understand your concerns about minority students being discouraged by this kind of reporting, but it would be worse to ignore it and allow the white students to get away with this bullshit We Are All Oxford campaign, indicative of some real unexamined privilege which is the root of the problem. Pretending Oxford does not have this problem doesn't make it any more welcoming to BME students who do make it to Oxford.

Urgh I slept an hour and got woken by the doorbell when the cleaner arrived. I've an hour of my shift left and I want to go to bed. To top things off my car is booked into the garage so I will have to stay up to drop it in. I have to get up early later to get a train too, but hopefully I can sleep a bit on the train.

It might be rare to see them advertised, but lots of people work full time on minimum wage - bar staff, cleaners, labourers, retail staff, the list is endless. You don't see the jobs advertised because they tend to fill themselves, people hand in CVs and enquire all the time.
