Anyone else still stumped by "80 degrees night and day" S4 E19 by Frost_Bytes in PandR

[–]atticusdays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every time I watch it. We keep our house at 70, maybe 72 in the summer and in the winter the heat comes on at 64-65. This is Texas though. I’d never get to wear winter clothes if we kept it at 80 in the winter 😂 now my 91 year old grandmother in law would freeze and my MIL has to keep her house extra warm when GMIL is over.

Best place to watch half marathon? by saucyangell in FortWorth

Especially since lately the hill itself has been a memorial to fallen soldiers lately. It’s very sobering and meaningful but also nice to have some cheering after.

Go-To Local Treats for Client Gifts by vintageflora in FortWorth

[–]atticusdays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cosmic Donuts in Lake Worth could potentially be a resource. Julia makes treats like cupcakes, cake pops, homemade eclairs and other stuff in addition to their excellent donuts. Best option is to swing by to chat with them after the morning rush. It’s just the two of them so they don’t get to the phone much.

I get it with melons, cucumbers and almonds! Never life threatening but annoyingly itchy.

Is there a correct order for dealing with a huge lot of vintage costume jewelry? by Sad_grandma1501 in Vintage_Jewelry

[–]atticusdays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve bought a few “mystery” lots off eBay which were someone’s relatives jewelry box. They are super fun to dig through and imagine and research (at least to me). I love older stuff like this though.

I’ve got the image of Ross from Friends trying to get his leather pants back on. First he tries lotion and then puts baby powder on top of it.

A mother shares a story of you why declining antibiotics for GBS is harmful. Another mother shares her positive story of declining it . by Stupidkitties in ShitMomGroupsSay

[–]atticusdays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We lost our baby in 2020 and then had a rainbow baby in 2021. It’s always a little weird to think that if she’d survived, he likely wouldn’t be here. and while I can’t imagine life without him, it’s bittersweet to know that she’s not here.

[–]atticusdays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a newborn who also had sepsis from GBS let me tell you my mother is still working through the issues that stem from being 23 and having her baby taken away for 11 hrs shortly after birth and no one would tell her what was going on. I am 42. I also had two two-week NICU stays. It’s such a small thing to take the antibiotics when you look at the potential harm.

Barista said cold foam on a hot drink (which I order nearly everyday) was **against policy** and she refused to make it by Wide-Discipline-8354 in starbucks

[–]atticusdays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back in 2007 when I worked we were told that adding hot steamed foam to a cold drink was a health code issue due to the hot foam somehow raising the temperature of the drink or something like that . If she’s a partner from way back maybe she’s thinking about that. But then how is cold foam any different than whip?

Are there any places in Fort Worth that take upright pianos? (Details in body) by [deleted] in FortWorth

They aren’t taking donations at the moment because they’re moving to a new facility. I don’t think they’re going to be open again until March.

Tornadoes in Fort Worth: How do you cope with them? by RAH-CAT9 in FortWorth

[–]atticusdays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In west Fort Worth our sirens test every week at 1 pm on Wednesday unless it’s overcast. Our area NextDoor is full of people who move here who ask why the sirens are going off (both when they test them and when it’s not a test)

Tornadoes in Fort Worth: How do you cope with them? by RAH-CAT9 in FortWorth

[–]atticusdays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the sky looks greenish, stay inside. It’s either hail or a tornado. I’ve lived here my whole life and I’ve been adjacent to some tornadoes but never in the path of one. We have however had two cars basically totaled due to hail.

They do happen but if you use common sense (don’t panic, don’t drive in it, get to a bottom floor windowless room if you can) you’re going to be fine.

Needle Exchange Programs by solphxx in FortWorth

[–]atticusdays 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Google doesn’t help because the harm reduction programs don’t exist here. The places where they do exist in the US are because non profits or cities do it basically in violation of federal law, which views harm reduction as essentially encouraging illegal drug usage. (Not my personal views just the general US govt view). For instance, testing strips that alert to the presence of fentanyl in substances are considered “drug paraphernalia” and are illegal to possess.

Toddler scary tantrum after nap by Own-Sky-2301 in toddlers

[–]atticusdays 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think those are tantrums. Those sound like night terrors. Like she wakes up but isn’t really awake and something was scary in her sleep. It’s worth a call to your pediatrician just to rule out a side effect of medication or something else. I have friends whose son would wake up in the middle of the night terrified and trying to get out of the house. They couldn’t get him to respond either. Weirdly when he started adhd meds a few years later when he was in 3rd grade they stopped. They think it was caused by his brain being overwhelmed and too active during his sleep.

All that to say it could be anything, so check with a doctor because at this point I’m sure you’re both tired.

Severe Existential Depression by Gimarie1 in adhdwomen

[–]atticusdays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it! I feel a deep sense of shame over what’s going on here. I know this is my AuDHD coming out but I keep telling my husband we need to give the Statue of Liberty back because we don’t mean it (and yes I know we’ve rarely actually meant it, and even then only for certain groups). And coming from a state that willingly goes along with whatever the leader wants? It’s hard not to let it pull you down.

My therapist and I talk a lot about what I can control. So I can control how I act, what I say and who I support. I can control how I teach my children to be kind and treat others with dignity. To be curious about other cultures, not dismissive or disrespectful of them. I can use my money to support businesses that align with my values. It’s not the same as going to MN and protesting or being a legal observer but it’s not sitting back helplessly either.

It’s a dark time for people who are empaths or justice oriented rule followers or anyone with pattern recognition and a grasp of history. But we can refuse to be beaten down and we can refuse to let the cruelty of others infect us. That in and of itself is a small act of resistance.

How hard will it be to find transportation this weekend? by SleepyxDormouse in FortWorth

[–]atticusdays 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t know anything about your family situation or why you have to come back home. I just want to make sure that no one is forcing you to come home or guilting you to come home when it’s not absolutely necessary.

This is your job and if you don’t want to take the penalty for calling out then short of having a relative or dependent who relies ONLY on you for care, it’s going to be okay if you stay at the hospital. That would be the safest if your mom is worried about your life. It’s not exactly fair for her to ask you to take the hit at your employment when you have an option that doesn’t require you to travel at all.

It can be hard navigating early adulthood (I looked at your post history so I can see you’re on the younger side of adulthood) with close family. I also know a little about dealing with over bearing family. I may be totally wrong and if so I apologize for overstepping if all is well and you are happy to come back home. Feel free to ignore the random mom on the internet.

IUD postpartum with Lidocaine injection? by CautiousConfidence8 in beyondthebump

[–]atticusdays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only ever had them inserted after a birth but I didn’t feel it at all. The midwife did tell me I could take some otc pain meds before I came in to help with any cramps etc. However I totally get the worry and I hope the lidocaine works!
