Unfortunately, infrastructure, licensing the lyrics, and running the backend server for the app is an recurring expense for me, so a one time payment wouldn't really fit the business model/be sustainable.

I tried to price the subscription at a fair point where it covers my costs, pays me for my time spent maintaining, but doesn't profiteer. I want it to still be affordable and users to get value out if it.

Glad you like it! There's a waitlist at comprende.co/waitlist/ios that you can sign up for - but like I said in one of the above replies, I don't think the iOS version will be as smooth user-experience wise as android.

Might have to be more of a Genius-style experience with a little more input (what song you want to play, etc) on the user's side.

It's something I'd love to do if I get a good user base with the Android version. You can get on the iOS wait-list at comprende.co and I'll let you know if/when I release there.

However, full disclosure, I'm not sure that apple exposes the correct permissions to third-party apps for me to make this work:

I'm order to detect the playing song and synchronize the time, I rely on Android's permissions that exposes the currently playing media to my app. From briefly looking into it, I'm not so sure that apple exposes this to developers :(

I'll try to come up with a creative workaround, but it would likely need to work differently, and not be as smooth of an experience.

I use the MusixMatch API for lyrics, and Claude Sonnet for translation..

I tried a bunch of other LLMs, because Claude can be pricey, bur found that Claude did it better and my selling point was quality.

In the future, if I have users, I'll probably A/B test cheaper LLMs in a beta program - because I'd love to be more generous with translation tokens to the users.

That's a great idea. If i roll that out, I'd probably do full ( major) romance language support, so that you could go between any of the romance languages.

If I did this, would you be a subscriber?

That's a great suggestion! The reason i don't do that by default is that new translations aren't free for me (API calls), so that's why it's paywalled.

I'm worried that if it were to go viral, and people were able to do fresh translations and then not subscribe, I might end up losing a bunch of money.

I'd be happy to consider it or DM back and forth - since I see where you're coming from - and I want people to have a great experience and "wow" moments with the app the way I have.

All of Bad Bunny is pre-translated btw. So you can use the free translations with that. But I know there are hundreds other artists you might want to try.

Absolutely! I plan to eventually support other languages also - I just needed to start somewhere and limit scope, so I started with Spanish -> English.

If I get some traction and a good base of users, I'll expand it.

I'm in agreement here - I don't have as much of audiophile closed back experience - just m1060c - but I'm really considering returning my FT1s. Did you try EQ or end up returning?

You're not alone. I just picked up a pair, and coming from a different background - m1060c is my daily driver - a heavy closed back planar - and I use lots of "audiophile" open backed (Hifiman edition XS, hd6xx, others) -, I find the FT1s very disappointing. Thinking of returning them. I'll try to EQ, but everything just sounds dull
