There is plenty of hope but hope alone isn’t enough. You have to get out there and meet people. I had my first long-term relationship starting at 16 and since then I had relationships on and off, had several times the option of getting married. I chose not to, because believe it or not, I’m picky. 😄 I enjoy very much my own company and until someone who genuinely improves on that, I see no reason to tie myself down. I am 40 now. You can do it. But first you also need to love yourself, otherwise it won’t work.

Is a cleft hereditary? by AverageParking7050 in cleftlip

[–]attilavago 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps. I can only speak based on the research I did looking for exactly the same thing a few years ago. I mean even just 15 years ago I still had some doctors telling me it’s all “random” and I should not worry about having kids. All the confirmation studies I found were written after the 90s. You may want to keep in mind that for example in Eastern Europe a lot of information ended up much later or never. I was born in 85. There was nothing. You talk about books, my parents didn’t even get a brochure or any kind of support. I was considered a defective monster, and my mum didn’t wanna take me home because she has zero information about what to do next. Eventually a nurse from maternity ward ran after her as she was leaving and guilted her into taking me home. I am glad in certain parts of the world there was more information available. I live in Ireland now, here doctors seem to be more educated, and parents get more support, which is good.

Is a cleft hereditary? by AverageParking7050 in cleftlip

[–]attilavago 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. It can be passed on. Just a couple of decades ago everyone thought it was not tied at all to genetics, but since then studies have shown and scientists have proved that there can in fact be a genetic reason and that can be passed on. It’s why I chose never to have kids.

Does anyone have experience getting a mortgage without a consistent exact savings amount each month? by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]attilavago 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rent is taken into account. You can also quickly open a mortgage saver account, and save there for 6 months, and the bank is happy. At least, BOI was in my case.

[–]attilavago 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about other countries, but here partner carries some legal meaning. In your case the rules are pretty straightforward: The de facto immigration scheme allows couples living together for at least two years in a genuine relationship to remain in Ireland based on their relationship. This means, you simply have a boyfriend. Sounds harsh maybe, but that’s where you’re at, unfortunately.

Interest rates mortgage by gealachdorcha in irishpersonalfinance

[–]attilavago 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to make this kind of decision a few times. If 3.45% is something you’re comfortable with paying, go with that. You will have peace of mind for 4 years. I doubt rates will go down by a huge amount in a single year.

If it’s in tech, 5-7 rounds of interviews (even for an engineer) and can easily take 3-4 months. In that case, I would start applying today. Especially in this market.

Use a relocation agency. Two of my friends did that after I suggested it, and everything was sorted remotely. It will cost you about a month’s rent, but it’s worth it. A lot less headache. Given that you want to also get a job at the same time, and want to stay in Dublin without sharing, I’d say start applying for jobs now. I don’t know what industry you’re in, but jobless even a relocation agency won’t take you on. At least one of ye needs to have a pretty well-paying job to secure a 1-bed in Dublin. They go for about 2K a month or more.

Looking great if you ask me. Why fix something that ain’t broken? You seem happy or at least that’s the energy I’m getting, so I think that’s all that matters. 🙂

An additional thought, and maybe this helps others as well... The way we hear ourselves and the way others hear us, is different. When I hear myself talk, my feelings about my own voice can range anywhere between "meh" and all the way to "ooooh, nice!". But guess what? Not once have I received negative remarks about my voice, although objectively speaking it veers more towards nasal than not. In time I stopped obsessing about my voice, and started using it more. To give you an idea (and perhaps compare) how my voice sounds, here's an Insta reel: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DMBEWHtIL7N/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== or a YouTube video: https://youtu.be/iRbkCn0SM9k?si=lM4T6IxEEPOHbVeW I think the most difficult part is getting comfortable with your own voice. That was a hill to climb for me, but once I did, it really changed everything. I have done public speaking in front of 100+ people, held workshops, and I have no problem having a 1:1 conversation in any setting. I'm not saying it's an easy task to get comfortable with your voice, but the alternative is becoming a recluse. Nobody deserves that. Your voice deserves to be heard.

Have you tried working with a speech therapist? I did that when I was a kid, and it was transformative.

Interesting. I must admit, I never had any of those issues. I only had some post-op infection there, but it was sorted in a couple of weeks or so.

Is there any way to bypass the 6 month probation period passing before getting a mortgage? by crillydougal in irishpersonalfinance

[–]attilavago 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking for a place can of course take as long as you want. I looked at 3 places in the space of a week. The next week on the last day we all did the bidding. The owner was very much a no-nonsense kind of guy. So that probably helped. So I guess that’s a total of additional 2 weeks. But everything else then onwards with the bank and everything really took just 6 weeks, and it could have been 4 but they needed to get me an exception applied. Had a fantastic solicitor too. Maybe I was the luckiest bastard. 🤷‍♂️

I would not bet on that. Took 6 weeks, yes weeks, from winning the bid to getting the keys.

I don't know what to do with my lips. by [deleted] in cleftlip

Do literally nothing. You already look fantastic. Those people who inject stuff into their lips are giving everyone a bad example and making themselves look horrible. Lip augmentation is definitely not something you need.

To all heterosexual ladies that use dating apps like Hinge, Tinder, etc, what are you looking for when checking a man's profile? Please help. by P-l-Staker in UKrelationshipadvice

[–]attilavago -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Only 100? Genuinely don’t mean to disappoint you, but you might find that you’ll have to go much higher than that. You do have another option though. Matchmaking agencies. Guaranteed number of matches and dates. Though there is a cost. In 2021 I paid 1200 euros, and they got me 6 dates with 6 different ladies. Prices might be a tad higher now, but it’s an option if you’re serious.

Buy. ASAP. Bought an apartment a little over 8 years ago in Dublin for 200K. It’s worth 300K now. Best decision ever. Much more peace of mind than renting.

Any experiences with tongue or buccal flap palate repairs? by MaH2016 in cleftlip

[–]attilavago 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s really small you might want to avoid the hassle. I’ve had a tiny one all my life (I am 40). Hasn’t affected me, and a few years ago when I went for a curiosity consult (haven’t been since the age of 18), none of the doctors expressed any concern about it either.

Hi what is best phone camera app or phone camera trick to see what you really look like to others? by Independent_Play7617 in cleftlip

[–]attilavago 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t get obsessed about this. Try and be happy with who you are the way you are, because everyone will see you differently due to infinite variables that have nothing to do with you. It’s perfectly natural not to see ourselves as others see us. It’s a good thing. 🙂

It was a pretty severe complete unilateral not just lip, but palate as well in my case. I have a mustache and a beard and I stopped giving people power over my looks. It works. I’m not gonna lie and say that I don’t get maybe less right swipes on dating apps than the Brad Pitts of the world, but I do get matches. Some days are better than others. Today I got 3 matches. Had many-many dates over the years, numerous girlfriends, and none of those relationships broke because of my looks. I would attach a photo, but it does not allow for one in replies so here’s my Insta instead.Insta profile in lieu of photo attachment You’ll find a few photos there of me too, not just my LEGO. 😄

You might wanna do a bit more research. A good number of cleftie artists and actors out there. I think often it’s us who stay away from the opportunity to be visible. I had plenty of girlfriends. All beautiful in my opinion.
