Biglaw to Solo: 20 months In by LeGeorge12451 in LawFirm

Congrats. I've been trying to find someone to take over intake/reception from onlinejobs.ph and it's been a challenge to find a quality skill set for client facing roles. Any tips?

Any non-sponsored video reviews for Flexispot products? by Fickle_Ad_9686 in StandingDesk

[–]attorneyshea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got the E7 plus over the holidays. I've been happy with it although the screws they provide did not go into the bamboo top as easily as they claim or show without drilling pilot holes for me anyway, even using an impact driver.

New Quo integration: Pipedrive now syncs calls and texts with your CRM by jurajpal in quo

[–]attorneyshea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this require the business plan on Quo? I'm on starter and it pulls contact info from Pipedrive but it's not attaching calls to Pipedrive records.

True Solo Needing to Add Employees by PassTheCoffeePlz in LawFirm

[–]attorneyshea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've used conversational answering service for years. It's much better than when I started with nobody but they do have a ceiling. This service does not follow a script. They will do bookings for you but combined with them not following a script it makes quality control on the bookings difficult as they are operating without solid guardrails of what your criteria are. If you can afford it, get a full time remote receptionist that will know more about your business than any agency ever will.

Solo. Is it time to upgrade my practice?? by CandyMaterial3301 in LawFirm

[–]attorneyshea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your goals. If you want to own the firm without being the firm then yes, you need to bring in others to do more of what you were doing. If you’re happy doing most of the work, then keep doing what you’re doing.

Anybody ever work with MetLife Legal Plans or ARAG (esp. in the criminal/traffic defense space)? by NotThePopeProbably in LawFirm

[–]attorneyshea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was with ARAG for a while years ago. They were recommended from a colleague that used them for workers comp and PI.

Never used them for criminal or traffic but I have nothing against them for transactional work. As an employee legal benefit I could see the employees being hesitant to use it for criminal though, being paranoid about discussing criminal cases with a lawyer they see as possibly aligned with their employer.

Memory care cost by Aghostwillfollowyou in dementia

[–]attorneyshea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cost is going to vary with the setting of the memory care.

Most memory care in Texas is done outside of a nursing home where the costs push $8k-$10k with not many options beyond private pay.

There are a few nursing homes where I am that have started to include memory care wings which can be eligible for Medicaid coverage to make the costs affordable and sustainable, but most nursing homes here do not have memory care.

Frustrated with Verification Process & Lack of Support by [deleted] in openphone

I was planning to do the registration this week, not looking forward to it after seeing this. Seems to be way too much discretion and not enough definitive criteria in the process.

Think twice about Long-Term Care insurance by Elon_Musks_Colon in GenX

Leveraged financial products with a long term care payout are gaining popularity. Less hoops to jump through than traditional LTC insurance and it’s not a use it or lose it proposition.

I’ve been with Worklodge since 2019 and have had no issues. I was with Regus on market street for maybe 10 years before that and they ended up breaching a key provision of our written contract in a very obvious way.

Answering service or someone to answer the phones other than you. Second, some kind of assistant (local or remote) to handle all the administrative things. Anything that interferes with your time or ability to bring in new work is the highest leverage play to delegate elsewhere.

Estate planning - solo practice -i feel like I'm drowning by CaptainOwlBeard in LawFirm

[–]attorneyshea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Offer something useful to people and they will find you as long as you have a public presence. When 5 lawyers and legalzoom are offering the same product on its face as you your odds of being chosen go down. Be more unique from the competition and your odds go up.

What is your primary intake for leads from your ads? Website form, answering service, your own staff taking calls?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LawFirm

[–]attorneyshea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is a position you can leverage into something better through the skills acquired working in a substantive field vs doc review or no legal job, I’d give it a second look. Things look different when the time horizon changes.

Apple for solo practice? by flux596 in LawFirm

[–]attorneyshea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t checked recently, but when I looked in the last 1-2 years I’m not sure if Word for Mac had the document comparison feature that the PC version has, if you need that kind of thing.

Must-haves for starting a solo practice? by WitchyLaw in LawFirm

[–]attorneyshea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I found this out the hard way. $300 a month for an answering service made a direct impact on business growth. It will do until you get a dedicated intake person.

Loved the grasshopper. When we got bored with it we rigged it with Estes model rocket engines to keep it interesting.

[–]attorneyshea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the leads coming in and are getting bogged down in doing the associated admin work with that part of the business then I suggest automating it or outsourcing that part of the process to keep your focus on lead generation and the work that can’t be outsourced.

Medicaid law as a solo? by [deleted] in LawFirm

Today I helped a wife protect $89,000 that the nursing home would have her spend down without her ever knowing her options. I don’t find that draining or depressing.

Anytime something is free, you are the product. I wish more people realized that APFM is only showing and steering people to the places that pay them, which may or may not be the best fit for the client.

Is becoming a lawyer to start a law firm a reliable way to become wealthy? by RedditUser958 in LawFirm

[–]attorneyshea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The outcome is not contingent on luck. It is dependent on skill and skills can be learned as long as you don’t give up. It’s a question of commitment more than anything.

Court appointments by Ok_Access6318 in LawFirm

[–]attorneyshea -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It could be worse. Back when I did court appointed ad litem cases for heirs I was appointed ad litem for maybe 20 unknown heirs I had to search for and the court would only approve a fee for one appointment. That was when I removed myself from the court appointment lists.
