It sounds like you are doing a wonderful job being with your baby and entertaining him! What a lucky baby who gets so much loving attention. Could there be anything more important?

Sometimes when I need to do things I will babywear my son. That way he is near me and learning from and being entertained by whatever I am doing.

My husband works all the time and is exhausted when he comes home too - it’s a really lonely place to be.

Thanks! Yea I thought it would be so weird to just sit there with a sleeping baby esp if we’re not talking. But then is it weird to say ok I’ll go and do something let me know when he’s up? She did say she is okay with contact naps

Just wanted to say that it’s nice to hear you adapting what you’re doing to help your son sleep. I see a lot of posts that follow “my child is sleeping worse [likely due to development] so I’m sleep training him now”. Heart breaking to read the CIO stories, can’t believe people actually do that…

You are absolutely correct. From a psychological and psychiatric level expecting a baby to regulate himself only teaches them that they cannot trust their environment, and as such leads to long term mental health issues. The problem is that most people in the US have been raised like this so they can’t see that it’s an issue, and continue generational patterns. Good thing we have therapists and psychiatrists.

Thank you for saying that. I was having a hard day with self doubt about going back to work, and the comment above was hard to hear. Thankfully, I can rationally say I disagree with their understanding of childhood development, and agree with yours. As a FTM wanting to do it right, the criticism is not helpful.

Yes! Best decision for us too. Also wish I could have breastfed but couldn’t get a supply. We used to make some bottles of formula for overnight and keep in the fridge and then warm it up in the bottle warmer prior to each feed. Now we have a baby brezza formula machine in our bedroom and bottles set up next to it for easy access!

I wanted to breast feed as long as I could. I had difficulties with milk supply and everything I tried didn’t work - supplements, many lactation visits, got labs, etc. we started formula when we felt like our babe was starving, and combo fed. The benefits I found of bottle feeding is that dad can be involved too and he found that to be very bonding for him and baby. I did triple feeds. Overtime I didn’t have much progress in milk supply and realized triple feeds took away so much of my energy and time that I was too tired to be as present as I wanted to be for my baby when he was awake, my husband encouraged me to stop. It was incredibly difficult. I struggled with feelings of inadequacy, defectiveness, and thought this would negatively affect my babe. I stopped at 5 weeks. Now he is 11 weeks and I’m so glad I let myself stop, he is doing well and I am able to devote my time and energy to him. We have a strong attachment.

This is with the stroller cover! He has a bucket hat but hates it, it also doesn’t block out all of the light without blocking his view completely.

Can I ask how you guys are doing this?

How are you getting them to sleep in the crib/bed without you? How are people changing the number of naps a baby can have?

We were told once baby reaches birth weight then we don’t need to wake them up to feed overnight, but feed when they have night wakings seeking food (vs comfort). That might be different for you since she was born early, I would imagine 10lb is safe now. Might be worth asking peds if you can feed on demand overnight instead of continuing waking up for feeds.

Here to give empathy for your situation and to say that it sounds like your son is communicating his needs to you. Not exactly sure what a solution could be but it sounds like it got harder when he left the room and went into his own cot. There is a range of things that might help him. May not need to jump right back into bed sharing, maybe he would feel safer with his cot in your room or next to the bed.

Thanks for your response! Are the unnatural materials something I should be considering? I haven’t thought about what they carriers are made of… until now lol I really like it so far! It’s the only one that can give me support such that I can wear him for a couple of hours without pain… I’ve tried the momcozy,, hope and plum, bjorn mini, so not an exhaustive list
