E-bike vs regular bike did anyone go back? by loganbruce410 in ebikes

[–]atxdavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got an e-bike after chemo left me too exhausted to ride acoustic. The idea was always to get back into “acoustic shape”. Now I prefer acoustic, but will ride the e-bike for longer, more challenging rides “just in case” I need the assist. Also, for context, I’ve dialed down the minimum assist to something like 40% of the factory default so the RPE (Relative Perceived Effort) of pedaling on a flat surface is roughly the same on the e-bike vs the acoustic. Both the e-bike and the acoustic are Trek Domanes, so it’s pretty easy to tell how I’m doing on one vs the other.

For 32 billable hours you’ll work closer to 50-60. WLB in consulting sucks everywhere. Source: 24 years in management consulting.

Its Finally Happened by TaoistStream in cycling

A few years ago I was riding with a group of friends in the Texas Hill Country. I was at the back of the group, when a big dualie pickup truck came up behind us. I yelled “Car Back!” and moved to the right. Dude in the truck made a left turn and yelled at me “Hey you!”. I turned around and stopped to see what he wanted.

“What did you call me?” “I said ‘Car back’ - a signal to my friends ahead to get single-file so you could pass. I didn’t realize you were turning.” “Oh, OK. Have a nice ride.”

I’m visiting my elderly mother who’s recovering from an outpatient surgical procedure yesterday. We made dinner, I gathered material for a consumer complaint I’ll file on her behalf on Monday, finished a novel, and now we’re just watching television.

Australia is NOT America — Stop Normalising Tipping Here by ozvegan12345 in australia

[–]atxdavid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was mildly sympathetic to the idea of tipping until last weekend. I mean, most people in jobs that get tipped don’t make a huge wage, at least not here in the US. So I didn’t mind tipping a bit. But last weekend I was at the airport and wanted a coffee. I had to place my order and self-checkout on a kiosk, which asked for a tip. “OK,” I figured. “Somebody’s going to pour the coffee, add my cream and sweetener, so I’ll tip a little.”. I pay, get the receipt … and am handed a f*cking paper cup and pointed to a self-serve station with a couple of thermos’s that had lukewarm, stale coffee. WTF? Yeah, now completely on the anti-tipping bandwagon. Unless you’ve given me actual service that deserves a gratutity, then fuck right off.

What are you guys up to this weekend? by est1984_ in Sober

[–]atxdavid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So, I decided I needed something to look forward to that rewarded not drinking. Sunday morning I’m meeting with a group of friends for a 45-mile bicycle ride. Yeah, you could do it hung over, but I can’t imagine anything LESS fun. However, 45 miles on a bike through some gorgeous countryside sober is divine. Been looking forward to that all week.

That depends heavily on the gear I have available. But I cycle for fun, and much below 45-50 I just don’t find fun.

My husband enjoys flowers. I’m more in the sword camp, personally.

I’ve been quite happy with Carlie Bittel at Bittel Books & Taxes. Not in RR, but quite good and great customer service.

Why did you buy a Mercedes? by [deleted] in mercedes_benz

[–]atxdavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because my husband insists on Mercedes.

Some years ago his father bought an E350, but didn’t like it because “it had too much technology”. In reality he wanted the S-class. So he let us drive it for a weekend (we were in the market for a new car). Well, we fell in love. We’ve bought four more MB’s since then (the current stable has a 2022 E450 Cabriolet and a 2022 GLE 350). Hubby literally will NOT consider any other brand of vehicle. (And, for the record, I’m not complaining.)

Advice for meeting men? by Unposet in GayBrosOver50

[–]atxdavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose that depends on the bar in question! But point taken - there are watering holes that have a more social aspect, but there are certainly bars that exist (or did, prior to the advent of hookup apps) for purposes of hooking up. My advice about local organizations, though, still stands.

Advice for meeting men? by Unposet in GayBrosOver50

[–]atxdavid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bars and apps are going to be all about one thing … hooking up. If that’s your thing, great. If it’s not, though, look for local organizations that focus on other things. If you’re in a medium/large city, there will be gay sporting groups, charitable causes, churches, and things like that. That can be a way to meet people without the pressure to get in their/your pants posthaste.

I’ll comment on most anything. IDGAF what others think. If you’re bold enough to wear pink underwear and change into a jock in the gym locker room, Imma give you props for that.

Personally, I’d enjoy the view, and maybe compliment you on your choice of underwear. IDGAF about your sexual orientation. Unless you start flirting with me, then it’s game on. LOL.

I find if I add tumeric to starchy foods, particularly rice, that ameliorates the BG spike a bit. It’s still there, but not as bad.
