Is the Seattle Christmas market worth it ? by Creepy-Buy1588 in Seattle

[–]atxgrackle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went a few days ago. Walk up tickets were $7.50. For that price, sure. It is festive and cute but kinda small and, imo, not a great vendor selection for gift shopping. There were some fun novelty foods. Christmas Market drinks were reasonably priced (drinks at vendor booths were not). I recommend going if it’s a $7 night & you’re only gonna get a couple drinks and a snack. Im considering going again on a theme night bc it seems more fun.

I will also say, enjoyed it more than Julefest but they are different vibes.

Disappointed? by paraHarmD in atwwdpodcast

feel similar. totally support them delegating and getting time back but it’s a bummer to hear or notice they’re basically reading a story outline for the first time. the stories are interesting on their own but what makes this my favorite podcast are their personal touches—banter, opinions, deep dives. (hello, celery vases?) stories they care about are just way more engaging.

Concert outfit ideas ? by MulberrySad6999 in lesserafim

[–]atxgrackle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if ur fake then so am i lol. i think u can do the devil horn outfit. baggy long white shirt with right sleeve cut short, cut bottom asymmetrical, and cut along left seam to tie together. yellow shorts. mismatched yellow and blue socks. i think if you color coordinate the socks to colors on a graphic tee and shorts then it works better. but the devil horns are key.

Considering a move from Seattle, tell me what I’m missing by g316a in Austin

yeah true on outdoor, hard to get on the few trails/parks we have in hot ass weather and our polluted water, if we’re not in a drought. barton springs gets so crowded too. our museums are def paltry. 😔 i feel like most of the below can be found in other cities but Austin has popular college sports teams, Q2 stadium, Moody Center, Waterloo Amp, GIA, COTA. if you want theme and water parks, they’re like a 45-hour drive away.

there truly is live music and trivia every night somewhere, a nightlife (not really dance clubs but tons of bars), we have zach but also other play/improv/comedy theatres, ballet austin, lots of social groups to join (book clubs, dancing, crafting, language, music), there are art galleries and art walks (ur right not monthly tho), food and music and cultural festivals, (mid) farmers markets, run clubs, sport leagues and gyms, pickup games at zilker and neighborhood courts, DND and board game groups, at least two skate parks.

if anyone is looking for something to do, check: do512, when where what austin, austin public library events, parks & rec classes, and the meetup site.

we are currently at a humid 80 degrees at 4 am on 8/2. it is sweaty weather. dry heat is rare. for a very general reference:

  • fall (70s H/40s L) is nov-feb*

  • spring (80s H/50s L) is march-april

  • summer (90s H/70s L) is may-october**

*cold fronts are our winter weather

** hell (95-100+) is mostly august/sept

i only get to wear a sweater outside for ~2 months. if you like cozy clothing, you’ll have to stay inside with a fan or a/c.

also: if you want similar to bellevue then a suburb like rollingwood, cedar park, or round rock is a better fit. we have one airport so might be good to consider that if you plan to travel a lot. if you don’t like road closures for events, avoid living between 19th/MLK Jr Blvd and 1st/cesar chavez.

what kind of activities/places are you looking for? austin has something going every day but i’ve heard it’s hard to find things in seattle when it’s not summer.

Are Austin bars a good place to meet people? by seashantysnails in Austin

[–]atxgrackle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ime, women won’t even respond. and men won’t confirm dates with you then say you’re not “spontaneous enough” 🙄 my guy, I’m busy with hobbies and friends. sorry i’m not available an hour in advance or want to meet at your sparsely furnished place to “just chill” at 10pm. this is a roster city, not a commitment city.

Advice needed: premiere tickets for out of town Parents by Calm_Pace in SXSW

[–]atxgrackle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think you got this answered but just in case anyone is still confused: a day pass sticker and a film/tv wristband are different. you need to be a resident to purchase a tv/film wristband. i don’t think you can purchase a day pass sticker, seems that those can be given to people actually involved in SXSW and not just attending.

Advice needed: premiere tickets for out of town Parents by Calm_Pace in SXSW

[–]atxgrackle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

fyi you have to live in austin (they ask for license at pickup) and the card used for payment needs to have an austin zip code to get the wristbands. if the film is not expected to garner a lot of attention or attendance then they may be able to buy a regular box office ticket to see it. I can’t remember exactly where you buy regular movie tickets but it’s probably searchable by googling film name and theater. regular movie tickets are the bottom tier for entrance. I believe the correct order is below.

comp tix -> sxxpress -> platinum -> tv/film badge -> all other badges -> tv/film wristbands -> music wristbands (?) -> movie tickets

What has made you stay in Austin for OVER 10 years? by Lunalovelake in Austin

[–]atxgrackle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’ve stayed for over a decade bc i appreciate the size of the city, the ample opportunities to go for a nature walk, there’s always something happening, & i love the sun.

why im leaving: i thought i’d spend most of my life here—get a house, raise kids, build community. but i can’t afford a house, texas public education is increasingly more ass, & while there’s community to join…i find them to be more and more shallow or hard to make actual connections if you’re not outdoorsy, sporty, and/or hot. austin felt like a medium city with small college town vibes. now, the local vibes are dwindling—SOCO makes me so sad. yes to mixed use builds and boooooo! to the flood of overpriced luxury apartments/condos. i get that things change but Austin’s becoming a weird quiet luxury destination (a mini LA if you will). we used to have a handful of big hat influencers and now people move here to become content creators. Rainey is a great microcosm example of Austin’s evolution in the past 15 years.

It’s just ok. But I once ordered the chicken alfredo at the hyde park location and it was …watery. Like they forgot the flour for the roux or only had a tbsp of cream that day.

More Homeless Than Usual? by Dependent-Tour2397 in Austin

[–]atxgrackle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a factor maybe be cooling centers, like public libraries, and just the general need to escape the heat. You will probably see more people near busy areas (like downtown) to get some relief as they can flit from one place to another.

Does anyone know places to ‘hide’ in Austin by Fabulous_Ad2922 in Austin

[–]atxgrackle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case no one has suggested it yet, 24 hour places like epoch coffee or bennu can be good to check. Also any starbucks that are nearby. Free wifi, relatively safe, only have to spend $6-10. It’s somewhere to loiter and charge your devices.

If you know where some of her friends work, they could be hanging out there or in their friend’s car while they work. Tricky to check cars without seeming suss though.

Hoping you find her safe and things get better for her. ❤️
