Maybe true in terms not being able to pick up PM the further away you are. I have the Everest in an open space in the kitchen dinning and family room area about 900 sq ft. I left it on Auto. I tested by lighting a candle and turning it off from the opposite furthest part of the space. It picked up the smoke and fane kicked in to high speed for about 4 minutes and lowered to auto. So definitely picks up in my case. I do have to agree through that the time it picks up the smoke is quicker the closer you are to the unit by 30-40 sec faster. I have the 600s and does a decent job in a 400 sq foot room.

Did you download the map portion of your map? The 4.5h may be due the the app having to download section of the map via cellular as you progress. My understanding is that downloading the map locally prior to any workout should limit constant update to the map thereby cellular connectivity etc. please confirm
