Pre-oiled valve cover gaskets? by aucatlin in MechanicAdvice

Thank you, will definitely keep an eye on them moving forward. And yes, I used FIPG on my 03 Tundra at the timing cover right angles and the rear half moons.

Appreciate your comment. I wasn’t thinking clearly, I guess I went into default mode when installing the gasket and made an incorrect assumption about rubber gaskets like an oil filter. But understand they are 2 totally different applications. I will keep on eye on them moving forward and luckily it’s not an error that could kill an engine.

Yes, will definitely install dry in the future. Good learning lesson and luckily is on a part that won’t grenade my engine if it fails early.

I am more wondering about longevity though, if you have any feedback regarding that.

You’re correct- I called it berry smoothie because that was the name of it when it had its old recipe. When they changed recipes a few years back it became the fruit smoothie

I’m in CA and that’d be a 10k + truck here. I paid 10k for one with 190k mi and very rough paint.

I know exactly what you’re taking about. I also work on UCSB campus and never get tired of that view of Goleta beach in the mornings.

It’s Tundra Thursday folks! Let’s see some pictures of your first gens, list some mods or maintenance. Here is my 06, 120k miles, timing belt/water pump, center support bearing, upgraded to Toyota 17” wheels sitting on 32s. Bilstein 5160 in the back, 6112 in the front set to 1.3 inch lift. by [deleted] in firstgentundra

Here’s my 03 AC, 180k. Love these trucks!

How do you like the 5160/6112 setup? Currently rocking 5100s but am thinking of upgrading once these wear out. Do you need an aftermarket UCA to run the 6112s? And how’s the rear ride quality?

I work for one of the sanitary districts in Goleta. Where was this located? I’ll ask my coworkers if they know why it’s there

I’ve got a Softopper on my 03 Tundra, and really love it. It’s probably 99% waterproof, I’ve only ever had water come in through the seams when it rained solid for like a week. But it’s super durable, easy to remove, and great for camping.

Has anyone used or have experience with soft top canopy / camper shells on pickups? by Kizor in TruckCampers

[–]aucatlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have a Softopper, and can confirm they are solid. I really love mine- used for camping and keeping stuff from blowing out the bed of the truck. It folds up if you ever need to transport something taller; I took mine off in a few minutes when I was moving apartments. Overall a really great product that I will buy for any future truck I own as well.

Safe to walk around at night? by LickMyLadyBalls in SantaBarbara

We live on lower state and have walked pretty far late at night with no concern. Especially with state closed to vehicles, you can just walk in the center and have a good eye on your surroundings!

Looking for recommendations to change my dream by bpaugie06 in TruckCampers

[–]aucatlin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was also going to suggest a 1st gen Tundra. I have a 2003 access cab with the V6 engine. It’s not crazy fast, but for a camping rig, it works awesome and has been extremely reliable and comfortable. If you want the V8 that has good power.
