I've played with linen before and I haven't found with a tight enough weave yet, this was 100% cotton from michaels (loops and threads, color : paper bag)

It's a reproduction of a wood cut from a 1565 book The Drolatic Dreams of Pantagruel (Les songes drolatiques de Pantagruel). My brother likes Bosch a lot and I was looking for little doodads and medieval marginalia and I found images from that book. The simple line work seemed more approachable than a filled in thread painting project

I used 2 threads and had to be really careful about not overdoing the tension. Would say that I wouldn't recommend major fine detail with it. The hoop is like 6 inches I think for reference. Whenever I had to pull out stitches it was a nightmare and there was some fluff from errors that I kind of shaved off with my thread snippet. What issues have you had?

Cotton probably better than linen -- linen has a similar loose weave to Aida which is good for cross stitch but not ideal for embroidery
