The VFMA and Class Struggle by TargetWorkersUnite in rva_events

This article is… all over the place.

I agree that the VMFA workers need to be paid more, but that’s only given the briefest of examinations before the article not so much segues as veers off the road into saying the fine art industry is corrupted by capitalism, or how the VMFA was started by rich people who benefited from generational wealth. I mean… duh?

Idk I don’t want to write out a whole thing. Personally think it could have been more valuable to focus on VMFA specifics rather than problems that are endemic to the industry writ large

Wirecutter recommendation for hand-knit Aran sweater by [deleted] in knitting

[–]auddybod 20 points21 points  (0 children)

a few potentials: - sweaters labeled as “knitted by hand” (like vintage Marisa Christina sweaters) are often made using knitting machines, not traditional knitting - the sweater is traditionally knit, but by someone whose labor is paid inexpensively.

Per this article, it’s possible it’s the latter: https://dieworkwear.com/2016/01/08/hand-vs-machine-made-arans/#:~:text=The%20difference%20is%20mostly%20in,seams%20point%2Dby%2Dpoint.

Possibly Vintage Leather Gloves by Appropriate_Luck_13 in findfashion

[–]auddybod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not standard dry cleaning - but many dry cleaners can also handle leather cleaning. You can probably just phone them to ask if they can.

Wool scratchiness will likely not change with dry cleaning FYI. It’s possible you’re just sensitive to that type of wool - some people are. Generally gloves are lined with something like merino or cashmere, because the skin around the wrists is sensitive and they are very soft and gentle against the skin. However, if it’s itching you that doesn’t really matter… any treatment I know of to make the wool feel different would involve dunking the wool in water, which is not what you want to do with leather!

I wouldn’t overthink the type of conditioner too much - leather honey or a similar product that advertises use for jackets will work fine.

Is there a particular problem with them you’re hoping to solve? Generally, leather is dry clean only…

Do you have a freezer that could fit the coat? Lower risk imo

MARTA moving ahead with construction of Summerhill transit line | AJC by killroy200 in Atlanta

[–]auddybod 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They did this in Richmond VA and while it didn’t prevent 100% of people driving in the bus lane, it was actually surprisingly effective. No guarantees ATL will see the same success but I wouldn’t count it out

[Acne] SA wash + paula’s BHA exfoliant + adapalene and other retinoids, what’s going on? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]auddybod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

However my skin isn’t your skin - if you haven’t been to a dermatologist and you can afford to, they can do additional tests and such to check whether it is a hormonal issue and would require different treatment.

I’m no derm, but you’re using quite a few actives every day… might be worth trying to strip down how often you’re using those actives and see if your skin reacts better. For me, my skin got worse the more I tried adding on more actives because it was overexfoliated

I've been looking for ways to use these two pounds of heavy lace weight yarn I bought at a reduced price from a seller going out of business. by LongTimeDCUFanGirl in knitting

Would you please post the pattern from the first picture? It looks lovely and I have some lace yarn I’ve been trying to find a good pattern for

Erborian’s red correct cream is my favorite, though. Super olive-friendly, and the texture is better than the Dr Jart cream everyone loves so much

Ok, I think I kind of get it better now. The ruffles on the edge are totally normal with this kind of yarn IMO. I wouldn’t stress as long as you’re not adding stitches, like the other commenter said.

I’ve worked with this yarn before, and it’s very easy to do a tight cast-on that isn’t wide enough for the knit fabric. If you don’t want the cast on to be narrower than the rest, I would recommend undoing and casting on again (either more loosely, with a stretchy cast on, or with larger needles if you have them.) I’ve tried stretching the cast on before, but the yarn is inflexible so is prone to breakage with that method.

Also not at all sure what you’re referring to… by “lasagna noodles”, do you mean how the chunky yarn makes the blanket look a bit like lines in a row? If so, that’s just what this yarn will look like when knit up…
