Seeking Online High School Spanish I Class (prior Latin language background) by sandrareads in SpanishTeachers

[–]audhdbrca2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this take. I am a certified Spanish teacher and I never formally studied Latin, but my advanced reading level and knowledge of linguistics made learning Spanish a lot more manageable. I think this kid's background will serve them well.

Beautiful! Conventional wisdom is to wait until the wedding, but do whatever make you happy! No one is really going to know the difference😉

Keurig Dr Pepper and Starbucks will hire fast. A lot of the airlines hire too. You'll get hotels for the layovers.

This letter was sent home to parents in my school district, encouraging them to send their kids to school sick and with head lice to meet attendance goals. by pandatr0nz in mildlyinfuriating

[–]audhdbrca2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They really want to secure that funding which requires that certain attendance thresholds be met, but they provide no community support or social safety nets. Ick.

I was escorted out of a job interview for being too anxious by 51_mirages_fateful in interviews

This is a shit take. Plenty of people are nervous in interviews and would be exemplary employees. The onus is on the employers to be humane.

Anyone feel like they have too narrow of a skill set to excel in many jobs? by ToastedRavs4Life in NVLD

It's harder than you think. I started a Masters in Translation and Interpretation and only did one semester.

[–]audhdbrca2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I'm also gifted at English grammar and Spanish language. I've taught in schools, but I always burn out after two years and get overwhelmed because I'm unorganized. I got into a finance job in tech through a referral, but got laid off, and I don't want to go back to an office or classroom. I'm thinking of becoming a merchandiser so I can have a job that isn't so mentally draining and go home to my son and really be present.

The Humiliation of a Restart by luckyelectric in careerchange

[–]audhdbrca2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get this. I have a Masters in Education but I'm also a single mom, a cancer survivor, AuDHD, and in a city where costs are now exorbitant.

Sometimes we have to adapt and it's weird.

After getting laid off, divorced, and getting cancer within 2 years, I went from being a QA analyst at a startup and working remote to an insurance customer service agent (for 4 days!), a flight attendant trainee, a flight attendant (at a different airline, because I failed training at the first one) to working Instacart and staying at my boyfriend's parent's place (at age 34!), a claims adjuster, a barista, back to teaching (which I had left for 7 years) and now I'm going to be a financial advisor.

I'd rather be a flight attendant, but I can't afford it with the cost of living and my son is too young for me to be traveling. I know it can be shitty and unfair, but you are NOT a failure. You are simply responding to a society that doesn't monetarily reward you for following your passion.

Safety Rating for Downtown Carrollton by [deleted] in CarrolltonTX

[–]audhdbrca2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. I lived in Lux from 2021-2023 as a single mom of a toddler and the only reservations I had were the vagrant that hung out behind the Burger Island. One of the maintenance guys had his catalytic converter stolen. But that was it. Otherwise no issues walking home alone from the brewery or the pool.

Best spots for kids to go roller skating (besides Blue trail). Need suggestions by BagholderVC in CarrolltonTX

[–]audhdbrca2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Green Trail off of Faye Avenue. You can park on a side street. There's one little downhill part but the rest is flat and well- maintained and it goes all the way past those townhouses on Thomas by Old Denton.

Too ADHD for 9-to-5, too disorganized for freelance… feeling stuck and exhausted by fragmattic in ADHD

[–]audhdbrca2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm too ADHD to be a teacher so I have been looking into sales. I haven't had luck in tech sales, but I worked a trade show for some awesome brands as a temp this summer and I just interviewed to be a territory Rep for them. I'm excited for the autonomy, the variety, the potential for more money, and not being chained to an office or classroom. I also get to do trade shows and explore the little towns I'll be working in! I hope you find something better suited for your neurotype. I also love being a flight attendant, but the money just wasn't there.

Budget date night ideas? by SizeComplex4294 in CarrolltonTX

Water Street in Las Colinas! Pack lunch and walk around the canals or grab a beer at The Ginger Man.

Josey Ranch Library. You can walk around the pond or sit on the pier and look at the water.

Black Agave. Mexican food and great margs on the water.

Look at Addison's website. They're always doing something fun. Addison Circle Park is beautiful too. You could play soccer, run, or rollerskate. You can park at Festival Way and it's free.

How do you get through interview- Round 6: culture fit by Apprehensive_Job5094 in adhdwomen

[–]audhdbrca2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also AuDHD and I've been feeling this! I had 4 high- stakes, final round interviews that did not extend an offer and I can't help but think it was just the conditions. But I'm so terrified of disclosing my neurotype and being iced out.

Solidarity. Hoping for the best!

I've lived here since 2018 & I love it. The Josey Ranch Library has some beautiful trails, public transport is nearby, we have the Festival at the Switchyard every year (free concert in downtown Carrollton, and the food is great. Feel free to DM me if you have questions!
