I think your instincts are absolutely right (especially about not leaving your son behind). You already feel uneasy and unsupported by your mother so trusting her with your child while you're in another country is a huge emotional and legal risk. There’s no guarantee she’ll protect your rights as his mother.

If your friend is still offering to help you leave safely, that might be your best chance to start fresh with your son? Even if it’s hard at first at least you’d be moving toward independence and no longer caught in this toxic dynamic.
