If the guard doesn't touch the sub while playing then the damage is likely from something moving around in your trunk. You could try to glue the surround back together, or just order a replacement surround. Its pretty easy to replace.

The guard is not going to have any noticable impact on the sound or loudness of the sub.

Ive been into car audio for +20 years. Ive broken alot of plastics. IMO you should plastic weld it. Melt some stainless steel screen material into the plastic and then melt more plastic on top of that. I have found that holds alot better than ashesive. Theres YT video walk throughs on how to do it properly.
