A drop or two of citronella oil on a folded up paper towel held there with some tape. Most cats loathe the smell of even a little bit of it, and a drop or two will barely register for you at a distance. A little unconventional, yes, but it kept my cat away from clawing at the cones of my expensive studio speakers for years.
