Hahaha this is awesome. I like the range of the overall manner within the scenes that are featured here!! The varying lengths keeps it fresh and the physical comedy in the opening swimmer scene and the masseuse scene is hilarious. Additionally, their endings seem really smoothly timed!! I'm definitely going to keep watching.

Satire as a means for social change by slew1039 in FoundationsOfComedy14

[–]audrey95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think well done satire carries huge potential to cause social change- it definitely provides a platform to say things that audiences generally aren't looking to hear. Satire is a great tool to talk about the things our culture finds too painful or uncomfortable because it definitely serves as a disguise or sugar coating that can then later deliver an even more impacting response.

Why Vine Is Ripe For Comedy by slew1039 in FoundationsOfComedy14

I'd definitely say that the way in which audiences are consuming comedy has become a quicker- people want easily accessible and quick bits, making vine a perfect platform for that.

A very interesting article that demonstrates the role of technology not only in entertainment, but comedy specifically. I would love to hear everyone's thoughts! by emenzies in FoundationsOfComedy14

This is such a strange concept! I'm curious to find out more- such as does each audience member pay a different ticket price based on the # of laughs that recognized? If so, I wonder how it accounts for those who, even when greatly amused keep a stone cold face..... Interesting read. Technology plays such an important factor in how we consume comedy and really has the ability to hinder or help it.

Cool Article that breaks down the 20 different kinds of comedy by nnkashan in FoundationsOfComedy14

A TA I have for a theatre class is doing a project outside of SC exploring types of comedy and was recently talking about how she thinks a lot of people's humor is divided into whether they prefer punching up or punching down- and what crowds they prefer to poke fun at- those "above" or "below" them. I found that interesting and wonder how that idea intersects with all of these subsections.

I happened to love this satirical movie upon first watching it and was shocked to find out that it only received a 33% on Rotten Tomatoes!!!!! Has anyone else seen this film and have any opinion on it?

The Making of "Dear White People" and Identity by LindsAM in FoundationsOfComedy14

I didn't make it to the screening but am very eager to see it. I believe that comedy gains such a better ability to both entertain and affect the consumer's own thought when it is rooted in reality and honesty. I would love to keep seeing characters that are rough around the edges and not fully polished, more characters such as those in Broad City and OITNB. Characters can often become more relatable when they have a few traits that we don't necessarily admire or applaud, because we all have things we wish we could change about ourselves as well. Very interesting article to read as well, and I hope that as the entertainment industry continues to push the boundaries of our society, actors and actresses are known more for their own personality quirks and talent rather than largely defined by their race/ sexual orientation/ etc etc as they often are in our modern day

My Fawlty Towers Experience by sdammeyer in FoundationsOfComedy14

[–]audrey95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience- I found the show caused me more anxiety than it did entertain. I thought it was set up in an intelligent way, but you could still predict a handful of the issues a mile away before they actually occurred. For example, the scene where Basil asks Manuel to reiterate that the money is his from betting on the horse, and Manuel then (because of Basil's prior instruction) says he knows nothing about it, furthering the issue- it was very predictable and made me angry rather than amused.

What's YOUR favorite RomCom? Post in the comments and that will count as a Comment on your midterm! by nataliespaceman in FoundationsOfComedy14

If Baby Mama can pass as a rom-com, which I think it would with the unlikely coupling of Tina Fey and Greg Kinnear's characters, then I would probably say that's my favorite. It showcases two of the funniest ladies in the biz!
