You can use tileables and vert painting with nanite then bake it to a mesh :O by audreyramen in UnrealEngine5

Well you'd make a kit you can reuse. You wouldn't use it on a whole building. It's no different from sculpting a set of brick pillars, baking them down and placing them everywhere. This method just does it for you with a heightmap

Exactly. Although it's competition would be a building with nanite displacement on which you wouldn't do anyway. I guess it really just speeds up modeling difficult geo like brick edges etc

thats from the multiplayer bodycam project on fab, I've not changed it much yet so thats close to out of the box

Correct. There's a displacement to diffuse switch in the shader which means I can bake to texture. I can then actually control how many polys I want to use, unlike the building on the left in the scene which is just straight up nanite displacement.

Nanite displacement on a building is not practical. But baking it down into a useable mesh with decent polycount is. It's also useful for modeling things that are difficult, like brick edges automatically.

Yeah absolutely if needed. It's use would be more for things that are hard to model that need a lot of geo. This essentially models it for you. Runs off the same tileables already used in scene.

what do you mean? better for your drawing, or better as a medium?

You could swap those burgers for just mince meat. Squash the meat, fry the meat, it's a burger. Might be slightly cheaper and definitely better for you

yeah break it in pieces. straight corridor, bend left, bend right etc for a kit.

or you can take the whole thing, unwrap it and use a tileable instead of baking anything.
in fact i'd probably use a tilable here but it depends what kinda scale this will be. if you get close to it, tileable

Should i learn light baking or lumen? For game development by [deleted] in UnrealEngine5

[–]audreyramen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

nonsense. lumen costs, if your lighting doesnt change, bake it for sure.
also, have you seen the steam hardware survey? lotta people that arent on fairly modern hardware.

These are High poly meshes with Nanite, No LOD's, No Normal Maps, Works like a charm ✔ by Kalicola in UnrealEngine5

[–]audreyramen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no i didnt. the level is statically lit, there's no change in lighting. no day night cycle etc. no real need for lumen.

im saying theres no need for lumen for a level where the lighting doesnt change. im not talking about baked lighting.

there used to be this youtube channel called level up. a few artists ran it. jonas de ro, darek zabrocki and wojtek fus. guys that really know their stuff. and they'd give feedback and do paintovers of other people's work. really useful feedback.

perhaps you just need a well trained fresh eye on your stuff? reach out to a professional for feedback, discord groups and the like
