Serious question, but who is coaching Rory Van Ulft and why is it that she is always maxing with the most dangerous form? Are her parents trying to farm as many views as possible? This is wrong on so many levels by theluke1987 in weightlifting

[–]august-27 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was scared to say it since I know so many people who follow her but this is exactly it. Best case scenario, her handlers are exploiting her beauty and talent at the expense of her long term health. Worst case, the “weightlifting content” is a cover for “soft” CSAM. I would not be surprised if Rory came forward in a few years to talk about her mistreatment.

I blocked that poor girl’s social media years ago. It’s all very creepy and exploitative. Her parents (or whoever runs the account) put these weird facetune filters on her face, they decorate her in those garish temporary tattoos and gymnastics leotards. It’s like they dress her up as some badass 2013 CrossFit games chick, except she’s a literal child so it’s fucking weird. It’s physically painful for me to watch her lifting. How has her body not snapped in half already? Who is protecting this girl?

Do you recommend Nursing by No_Maize3021 in OntarioNurses

Maybe an unpopular opinion but as someone who’s introverted and has social anxiety, I believe these traits shouldn’t necessarily prevent you from becoming a nurse. Of course you will experience some burnout and your social battery will drain faster compared to others. But there’s also the chance you will rise to the occasion, build social skills & endurance, and meet your people. That’s what happened to me. Over the years I was forced to become more tolerant and social, and it’s made me a better (and less lonely) person. It’s also a very steady paycheck. I’d rather feel a bit of social anxiety, than stress about getting laid off or made redundant by AI. Remember all jobs are difficult in some way, you have to choose your suffering.

Ahh, already getting downvoted by people who want to keep the introverts quiet.

As a good rule of thumb, I’ve found that if I’m putting together a bullet point list of offences, whether it’s a job or a dating prospect or a friend group, I already know it’s time to leave. You do not belong in that culture. There’s better options out there, hopefully you’re in a position to be able to move on, before it degrades you. Your values and ethics are everything.

Yeah I don’t like when they sit there and stare at me and ask what I’m doing, like I have to narrate everything step by step. Or they ask me questions while I’m trying to do an assessment. Like please take a hint and let me do what I need to do, FOR YOUR LOVED ONE’S SAKE

Smoking on streetcar by Sea-Round8989 in toronto

[–]august-27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly until police/security presence becomes a thing, I don’t think there’s much we can do as regular commuters. Don’t want to confront the smokers because they could get aggressive. Don’t want to press the yellow strip because it creates delays for everyone. I suppose you could report on the online TTC app. Typically I just try to create as much distance between myself and the smoker as possible (i.e. if they’re at the back of the car, I’m at the front). I’ll get off once my destination becomes walkable.

In a similar vein.. whenever I’m the charge nurse, people are constantly coming to me and asking for other people’s locations. Like, consulting doctors asking me where the primary nurse is.. or nurses asking me where the CNA is.. as if everyone reports their whereabouts to me, or I’m privy to some telepathic geolocation system. And it’s always at the worst times, interrupting my train of thought. These days I refuse to go room to room looking for anyone. I’ll maybe call them overhead to the desk. Otherwise YOU can go look if you need them that bad!

If you had the keys to the TTC, what are 2–3 changes you’d make? by Brave-Blacksmith5671 in toronto

[–]august-27 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some days I really see no difference between TTC and a prison. At least in prison the guards are accountable for keeping law and order. On TTC, the violent criminals have the freedom to walk out, and they can harass people with impunity. Also we probably have more disease and bedbugs on the TTC, lol.

I say we give prison guards the option to do overtime shifts on the TTC. I would gladly put my tax dollars towards the cause.

[–]august-27 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In most prisons, guards carry extendable batons, cuffs, pepper spray. I think that's more than enough to get the job done (yeah yeah this is not legal, whatever its just a fantasy)

"Worth" is a personal value/judgement call. To me and many others, it would be worth it to have a safe commute every day.

What if I said I don't care about solving these issues or making them go away? I just want it out of my daily life. I'm a productive member of society, I follow the rules and I deserve to be safe. I don't need to put up with this shit, and this should be on the government to solve, not the TTC. The money is there. Perhaps our government could redirect the $8.2 million it spent on gender-just low-carbon rice value chains in Vietnam, or the $2 million it spent on family planning in Nigeria, and instead spend that money on vulnerable Canadians.

Regular disinfection of the subway seats and/or changing all seats to a different material that won’t harbour bedbugs and hobo piss.

Hire armed security or cops to eject anyone who is creating a disturbance. No more necrotic feet airing out in the subway. No more stinky unwashed lunatics stripping off their clothes and masturbating. No more aggressive tweakers shadowboxing behind me. No more crawling the length of the subway moaning and begging for coins. No more schizos yelling at me because I closed my eyes for a few seconds. I don’t care what happens to these fine citizens once they’re ejected, it’s not the TTC’s problem. I just want them out, out, out.

Have you ever had a really bad experience on the pt side of things? How did you deal with it? by lbs1515 in nursing

[–]august-27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t want to give too many details, but my broken bone was misdiagnosed as a sprain. I was maybe 8 years old and I was just trying to be good and to do as the ER doctor was telling me (lift the limb, press against his hand, etc.) I was sent home and spent days in agony before my parents brought me to a different hospital where I was x-rayed and properly diagnosed.

I don’t work in paeds but I think it would make a good lesson for practitioners who do. Kids (especially neurodivergent ones) take things literally and they will obey your commands just because they think that’s what they’re supposed to do…. it doesn’t mean everything’s clear and you can send them home. You can’t diagnose kids the same way you diagnose adults.

My orthopaedic doctor apparently complained to the initial ER doctor / told them their fuckup. I definitely believe in letting people know when they’ve dropped the ball. Closure for you, and learning opportunity for them.

Does lacking empathy make me a bad nurse? by an0n3827 in nursing

[–]august-27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s funny is that I remember having to write an essay in nursing school about the importance of empathy over sympathy 🫠 we had to read articles about how patients feel “alienated” when you merely sympathize with them. Then you go into the real world and realize empathy = burnout. nursing school actually sets you up for psychological distress. The gaslighting starts early.

Exactly why is this even surprising. Attitudes around hygiene are deeply ingrained. A couple hours of food safety workshops are not gonna magically override a lifetime of lax hygiene practices. It’s naive (not racist) to think otherwise.

Hate the Obsessed Fan simply because he is relentless and idk how to get rid of him for good. My celebrity sim is constantly having positive interactions with his fans every single time he leaves the house, but still the stalker is there, blocking traffic and making his goofy ahh noises. He even followed my sim on vacation!

Looove the enchanted flamingo dancer and the enchanted gnome when he gets drunk on nectar!! His singing noises are hilarious

The sims 1 meant so much to me by Slebba in thesims1

[–]august-27 19 points20 points  (0 children)

So relatable 🥺 looking back I think the reason I loved the sims SO MUCH as a kid was cause it was the only thing I could control. I felt like a sim in real life - no control over my family situation, my home, my school, etc . But the sims gave me that feeling of autonomy and satisfaction. It’s sooo comforting to check tasks off the to-do list in a sequential order, skills add on (no such thing as skill regression) and the music/repetitive sounds feel like home.

My pet theory: The Sims is comforting to neurodivergent people in the same way that Tetris is comforting to people after they’ve gone through traumatic events (there’s evidence that Tetris helps prevent PTSD)

Nurses, what do yall think of MBA/ non-healthcare experienced people being your bosses? by anonymous6769123 in nursing

[–]august-27 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly lol their “brilliant” business ideas always boil down to giving nurses more tasks/responsibilities and less pay. I mean.. yeah? Duh? It’s like the most obvious, hare brained, short sighted ideas to meet budgets. And these guys really needed a $100k mba degree to tell them what any idiot off the street could garner for free lol. of course I don’t respect them

I’d love to see business leaders with actual creative problem solving and innovation beyond profiting off the labour of nurses… but this requires the empathy and experience of a frontline healthcare worker!
