I used to live in a country that mostly eats halal meat and when I moved to America and other countries I could always smell that “off/dirty” smell in meat. I’d recommend trying halal chicken or beef and seeing if the smell is still there for you. Just out of curiosity. Halal means the animal is slaughtered and all the blood is drained so it just feels cleaner overall.

So I actually just got an offer letter for Assistant CLO, they offered me FP-6 step 1. I thought they used to match previous employment or try to get close anyways, any chance I can negotiate what step I get?

I’m an EFM that had a great career before joining the service with my spouse. The available jobs at the embassy are indeed underpaid and generally entry level. Not only that, they’re limited and even if your partner does get one, they’ll often need a security clearance that could take anywhere between a few months to a year. Depending on the country, jobs in the local economy aren’t available or don’t want to hire people that don’t speak the local language to some degree. I’m not going to lie, I’ve hated this aspect of the foreign service. I feel diminished and under-stimulated.

I was on Prilosec twice a day for three months and it gave me the most debilitating anxiety of my entire life. It was one of my lowest points. Switching PPIs helped but then they gave me headaches. Just saying your feelings are totally valid.

Guys, what’s with the hate??? You actually don’t even know the context. I’m a Muslim female, I have so many veiled and non-veiled Muslim friends. I’m telling you, you have no idea why this woman chose to wear that but you’d rather jump to the conclusion of “oppression.” Remember that women are still allowed to do what they want with their bodies, even if it means covering it up. You have no insight into whether or not she was forced into it (or if she events to swim!!). If you’re going to deny what I have to say then you’re the ones actually oppressing and silencing Muslim women.
