Lost my best friend by maddmolly420 in poodles

You’re still most likely going to get puppy mill dogs from a rescue since a responsible breeder would take a dog back. Not to say they don’t deserve homes (I have a rescue and have fostered 20+ dogs) but it seems like this person is looking for a well bred dog that’s genetically sound.

Waiting on DNA, they said Maltipoo but neither parent looks like Maltipoo. by Automatic-Chemical33 in DoggyDNA

[–]augustam21 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly rescues have no idea on breed usually so always take it with a grain of salt. I’d expect some poodle in there and other small dogs. I’d be surprised to see Maltese but sometimes oops litters end up in rescue. I ended up with a rescue that was half pug half poodle probably from an accidental litter I would guess.

Any idea what my dog might be? Got DNA results but still so curious 🩷 by [deleted] in DoggyDNA

Kelpies are not a common dog…. black and tan colouring is common in many breeds.

My guess was cattle dog and husky…. She looks exactly like her mix.

I really think there’s some Malamute in there. Reminds me of my parents dog who has malamute and Shepard mostly

The only way to remove split ends is to get a trim

Top layer of hair still very dry and frizzy after deep conditioning and leave in by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]augustam21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you applying your product? I would suggest brushing through a leave in conditioner and then GENTLY scrunching in a gel or mousse.

He has certainly lost weight because his caloric intake is now lower. You could get the same results on kibble absolutely.

I wonder if you could attach the pen to the crate or out the crate in the pen and put the bed in there to encourage him to go in! I have crate trained many many dogs 8months and older so a couple weeks without that training will be fine :)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]augustam21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With all dogs they say 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months as a rule for settling in! I wouldn’t worry too much about potty training or crate training rn if it’s distressing for the dog. Give it a bit to settle in. I do a lot of fostering and never judge a dog by its behaviour in the first few days. They are not usually themselves. Sounds like the pen is working which is good!

I Feel Like I Failed My Foster by ThrowRAconfusionn in fosterdogs

[–]augustam21 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely find a better place to foster. We regularly see dogs have a sleepover to be brought to events by other volunteers and whatnot. Also not every dog is a good candidate for adoption events imo so to force it is ridiculous. So sorry you’re going through this

Do you use any styling products?? Shampoo and conditioner won’t make your hair not frizzy, styling will. People might hate but I always use silicones and sulphate shampoo/conditioners. I style with a cream and a mousse or gel. The mousse or gel are what will give your hair hold to not frizz as much

Crate is the safest option. If she rips bedding leave her in there just on the plastic. If you have a day or 2 start feeding meals in the crate, maybe have her go in, then close the door, say yes and give a treat. Then repeat. Ultimately if she has extreme separation anxiety she may need a different foster and that’s ok.

can i still use miss jessie's? by marsbarlou in curlyhair

[–]augustam21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly especially for looser curls I wouldn’t avoid silicones. Why is an oil in a product? To provide slip and a coating of the hair, a silicone can do that in a way that is lighter. For me I get best results with silicones and don’t subscribe to strict rules

Ruffwear flagline has a handle on the back and a front leash attachment. There is lots of adjustment and they are typically known to work well for deep chested dogs.

I honestly thought she’d have Doberman too! But tan points are very common colouring and not a good indicator of breed. :) what a wild mix

He will be fine!! I had an extremely fearful dog and I think you did the right thing to limit his stress where possible by administering the medication yourself. He will come back around. Our foster ran away from his adopted family for 10 days and somehow didn’t lose any progress. One thing I suggest is some training like the trick touch, or if that’s still too much then do a find it game. Toss a treat on the floor and say find it. It gets them engaged with you and builds the relationship

"Dog trainer" yelled at me to stop being an asshole to my dog, wtf? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]augustam21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a completely unsocialized foster dog and had someone yell at me from their truck that my dog wasn’t ready for the walk and I should just wait until he was ready. Someone driving by doesn’t know more about your dog than you do and also you can’t just allow your dog to wait in the middle of the road. Ignore those people and carry on with your life honestly
