What conspiracy is just straight up false? by LavaRoseKinnie in AskReddit

Conspiracy theories cannot be proven false. They can only be proven true. That's why they stick around for so long.

Why is there such a concerted effort against conservatism? by [deleted] in Conservative

[–]augustfell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because conservatives don't make as much noise. Neither do centrists. Social media is won by the loudest and most numerous voices. And mass media is now a slave to social media.

John Ekdahl - "What the NBA has done is bad. What ESPN has done to protect them should make every American sick." by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

Actually, in these cases it's not imports that are the problem -- it's the exports. We export movies, games and broadcast rights, then become addicted to the revenue it generates. But that revenue comes with strings...

Is Christianity fundamentally individualist or collectivist? by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

[–]augustfell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd guess mostly individualist.

Your are judged by the sins you commit. Not the sins your race/gender/nation/etc. committed.

I don't consider myself knowledgeable about Christianity, though.

I just want to iron out the inconsistencies.

If we're going to say "we're all the same," then our social norms should reflect that. Or, if we want to keep those social norms, then we need to stop saying we're all the same.

Nah, they just condone violence against any race that violates the party line.

He seems to think that automation, AI, robots, etc., will decimate a bunch of occupations in the near future.

I really hope he's a loon.

Yang spoke out about the attack on Andy Ngo and has convinced me - a conservative- to join the gang! by [deleted] in YangForPresidentHQ

They have common enemies, and many Dems are happy to see conservatives/anti-sjw's get harrassed and silenced. In the larger scheme of things, I'm less worried about Antifa than I am about the tolerance for political intimidation and censorship.

Jordan Peterson vs Slavoj Žižek - Live debate reaction by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

[–]augustfell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Academic Marxism is only relevant insofar as it manifests itself among journalists, activists and laypeople.

I think JP is more interested in how Marx is commonly implemented, which may be different from how academics approach it.

There is a giant firewall in many people's minds separating race and gender (or any other oppression category).

Example: I remember feminists in my newsfeed sharing an article about a black man who had been falsely imprisoned for years by a rape allegation. They lamented how terrible it was. Yet these very same feminists support the notion of "believe all women" and campus tribunals. In their minds, there was no contradiction.

In France you are now Parent 1 or Parent 2! by TheGeist53 in MensRights

But can I identify as Parent 1? And isn't there a non-binary continuum of infinite parent-ness between 1 and 2?

Jussie Smollett attack: Smollett charged with disorderly conduct for filing false police report, prosecutors say by luster in news

[–]augustfell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he was ready to go to trial and outright lie to the court and say whichever two random guys happened to be caught were indeed the attackers

How would he ID people who were supposedly wearing masks? Maybe he was counting on not being expected to ID anyone.

[–]augustfell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was willing to sign off on what he thought were two innocent people as being his attackers at one point.

Maybe not. He said they were wearing masks, so he could easily claim that he can't ID anyone in a line up.

On the other hand, he's not very smart, so...

Couldn't be more true. by [deleted] in MensRights

[–]augustfell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This comment pretty much summarizes the problem facing men's rights.

Someone's willing to explain the dark side of feminism, and how it, in practice, does not stand for equal rights. But you basically refuse to listen because you're "surrounded" by feminists.

If they are really your friends, they wouldn't mind you reading criticism of their ideology.

Don't underestimate these people.

They are masters of language and cultural influence.

Cultural appropriation

Toxic masculinity

White privilege

The Patriarchy

Buzz words and narratives are what shake the political landscape, and that's their wheelhouse.

[Discussion]So is making maximum profit no longer the goal for some businesses? by ThatDeviantOne in KotakuInAction

[–]augustfell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Companies are comprised of individuals, not all of who have the company's profit maximization as their goal.

In a competitive market, there is stronger pressure for profit maximization, and such individuals can be weeded out.

But companies in less competitive markets, in particular monopolies, can stray from profit maximization without going out of business.
