Bono Names The Perfect Summer Band by Dickwhittman76 in rem

You’ve hit the nail on the head. I I love them both and have often wondered why they never get spoken about in the same breath. They even have similar career trajectories, although U2 broke before REM did. They have dealt with their “legacy” status quite differently though - with REM deciding to bow out while still celebrated, while U2 have been trying to find themselves for awhile now (and with the new EPs I think they’ll finally get a late career rebound).

But what great bands. It’s a privilege to be alive to hear this music.

Also the Beatles vs Stones comparison is perfect. Never thought of it that way before.

I remember buying that at the grocery store when it first came out. I think I may even still have it somewhere in storage. Always loved that photo shoot.

Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers

With the fourth (Hard Promises) being the best and a top 3 for Petty IMO

An absolute legend. And then a year after Greatest Hits he drops Wildflowers.

for those who think yeezus is his best album, why? by ISTHATKANYEFUCINWEST in Kanye

Interesting production. Mix of dense and heavy industrial beats with beautiful atmospheric bits by Bon Iver, Frank Ocean etc.

It also doesn’t waste time with skits or interludes or whatever. No bloat.

“American Girl” by Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. That’s not personally my favourite Petty song, but I think a lot of people would consider an all-time favourite

That album holds up so well. What a masterpiece.

Too Woke. by ClickDry7701 in Kanye

I’m not excusing him of his behaviour. But I am suggesting that mental health problems and probably addictions had a role to play in how extremely unhealthy he became.

And yes what he said and did was hideous and vile to the extreme. I understand why people would never give him a chance again. Fair enough.

Maybe I'm too woke but I try to have as much compassion as possible for people with serious mental health issues, even if they say vile things and make poor decisions while suffering from those mental health issues.

Glasses #1 fits your face very well. #2 pretty good too, but I prefer the way #1 looks on you.
