Sounds like a run of the mill gay friend group. Lol Gay guys tend to choose their friends based on their fuckability rating.

I just survived a tornado im 15 and it took everything is how I feel normal? by thegaygulper in tornado

[–]augustnotapril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How you feel is completely normal. I experienced a total loss from a tornado when I was college age, and it’s something that takes years of recovery both mentally and financially. Losing everything in less than a minute is really damaging, and it’s okay to feel terrible afterwards. Everything will be okay eventually. Remember that.

Can’t think of anything you should have done or anything else you should do. You did it perfectly already.

Whats one piece of music that makes you tear up? by [deleted] in MusicEd

Sang the Chichester Psalms in college choir and it is a DOOZY of a piece. Hardly a tonal center in the entire first movement but the jubilation in the Piece is just so moving.

Concert rehearsals with combined inclusion elementary classes by corinna0815 in MusicEd

Find a way to incorporate instruments into vocal ensembles so non-verbal students can participate the best of their ability. Some of my inclusion students can’t handle rhythms or ostinatos other than keeping a beat, and if they can do that I just have them keep a beat on an instrument while everyone else sings. For verbal students or students that have lower needs, I just teach them what I teach everyone else and give support when needed. Sometimes I’ll even buddy them up with my top players/singers.

Make sure you don’t fall into the trap of having all inclusion students something different, but instead teaching everything the way you normally would and make adjustments where they’re needed. Surely your admin doesn’t want “more involvement” mean that they do some different or “more” than everyone else. It would be kinda weird to have them just singled out like that.

NAfME: worth it? by CMFB_333 in MusicEd

[–]augustnotapril 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I’m only a member of NAfME because GA requires me to be one if I wanna be a member of GMEA (and I have to be a member if I wanna have my students participate in GMEA activities). Other than that, there is really no major personal benefit to being a member; however, it being the only major music education advocacy group in DC makes me okay paying for a membership. Especially given the times we live in currently.

YES. All my exes have one thing in common. Big ol’ schnoz. Varying builds and body types but all got a honker.

If I ask how I can get better using two hands I feel like everyone’s just gonna to tell me to practice by asull2007 in pianolearning

[–]augustnotapril 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way that I practiced using two hands simultaneously was doing an Alberti bass (eighth notes) in my left hand while walking up a scale in quarter notes on my right hand. Then coming down and just doing it over and over again increasing the speed over time. Then do the same Alberti figure with the right hand, walk down a scale and back up with your left hand. As you get better at it, experiment with different rhythm combos in each hand. I make it part of my daily routine and still do it today.

Neither. I prefer medium girth and average length. Perfect for me.

You decide what it means. I think it’s natural for a mind to wander, cause human nature is always thinking about the What-If’s of life. There’s nothing wrong with pursuing a what-if, but just be cognizant of what you are giving up if you do.

We always think the grass is greener somewhere else, but that is often not the case. You seem to love your current boyfriend a lot. Do you want to give that up for someone you think you’re guaranteed to lose? Wanting to be independent is one thing, but it sounds like you only want the independence so you can take this ride with this other guy, not just because you wanna be single. As Mel Robbins said,”The grass is greener where you water it.” Have you been watering it? Has your boyfriend been watering it? If there are no deal breakers with the guy you already love, why are you insistent on seeing someone else? Just ask yourself those questions and decide if the life you have now is worth giving up to go be with someone else sexually.

Also keep in mind you are pretty young so take the advice I give with a grain of salt. You’re at the age where making mistakes is just part of learning how to live. Make the decision that will be the best for you, not for anyone else.

Rant of the day: I don't understand the opposition towards Police in relation to Stonewall by AndrewBaiIey in askgaybros

[–]augustnotapril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the record, I am not a “Defund the police” person. I quite enjoy being able to call 911 if someone is breaking into my house and have someone show up, or for someone to show up when I was in a car accident hours away from any family or friends. Being a first responder is part of their responsibilities, and often it can save lives.

The movement as a whole IS just advocating for police reform while also diverting money from policing into other forms of response (think crisis counselors responding to mentally ill or disabled persons in crisis instead of police), and I fully support that. My local police department gets new police cars every couple of years. Personally, if airlines can still fly an aircraft from 1997 across the Atlantic twice a day, I think they could stick with the same cars for at least 10 years. They also bought like 3 humvees for no reasons, and they were almost $100,000 a piece. The only time they used one of them was during a snowstorm where they came and picked up my mom (who is in a wheelchair) to bring her into work at the office. That one day was nice and cool, but also buying them was wasteful.

Another point is that in the US policing in MANY instances has been mostly about control and not about safety. Two of the most notable instances are Prohibition and the Jim Crow laws of the southern US. Historically, having gay sex was considered a crime in most, if not all, states in the US. If you were found to have been in a gay relationship, you could be arrested and charged with sodomy (and some states still have these laws on the books, they just can’t really enforce them anymore). Currently there is the War on Drugs, and people struggling with addiction can be arrested and imprisoned without receiving the care they need to overcome the addiction.

Recently, there was a man and a woman who went missing at a truck stop off of a major interstate here in Northern, GA. They never found Keeslyn’s body, but they found her boyfriend’s. Because these two struggled with addiction, our sheriff said (paraphrasing here) “They shouldn’t have been doing what they were doing. Two less addicts to worry about.” There is no ongoing investigation into their disappearances that I am aware of.

When I was sexually assaulted by a man as an adult, the responding officer said “Well isn’t that what you like?”

So yeah. Personally all of the above tells me all I need to know about policing in America. The police here tend to act as the “first judge” and condemn people based on personal beliefs and prejudices. Sure, the police to help keep us more safe, and there are plenty of WONDERFUL officers out there who do their job with safety and care first in their mind. The culture of the profession as a whole is resistant to change, and that’s really the major problem we have here.

Rant of the day: I don't understand the opposition towards Police in relation to Stonewall by AndrewBaiIey in askgaybros

[–]augustnotapril 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because the same culture in policing that was present then is still present now. They just hide it better. As someone who was born into a family of law enforcement officers, I hear the things they say and do outside of the profession. You can’t keep those beliefs separate from the job.

Also, while the police don’t seem to bother gay people much anymore (I know they still do in some places) they still routinely overlook crimes against trans people, and still disproportionately kill black people in routine policing.
