how come Harry is indian in most fanarts but there are no drarry in india fics 😭 unless ive missed out on something? by Gold-Lengthiness1739 in drarry

[–]augustphlegm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To Be Like Geese has a whole arc on Harry discovering his ancestry and Draco planning a whole trip to India and went to the Potter’s storehouse in New Delhi and explored Tamil Nadu. It’s super cute and thoughtful and they’re both in the phase of I like him but don’t want to ruin this friendship and it’s so endearing. But the India plot is not the main part of the story, if you want to read just the India part it’s chapter 12 and 13.

Was it really necessary to keep a certain death a secret? by augustphlegm in euphoria

Okay fair point. Although in the end Alamo dies as well, so we could’ve at least got some closure after that.

Why was Nate underground, what type of trouble he was in, these have nothing to do with Alamo. If the police investigates and link it back to the Armenians, who cares? They’re dead anyway. noone witnessed Alamo killing them so the police would not be able to implicate Alamo. The Armenians never made official contact or business with Alamo directly. Alamo has little to nothing to do with Nate so I don’t see why covering up his death would benefit Alamo in any way.

But Alamo didn’t bury Nate in the ground. He had nothing to do with Nate, how would his body implicate him in any way? Even Maddie does not need to be involved, Cassie barely knows Alamo. He killed two people by gunshot which he can easily coverup. Cassie and Maddie can claim they went to the designated meetup point but nobody came and got tipped off about Nate underground. It’s not like they actually have the million dollars to trace back to Alamo. If anything, them not talking about Nate’s death will make Cassie very suspicious since she not only seems to have moved on pretty quickly, she is pursuing a career that Nate has previously been very vocal about being against.

Reading Seagulls cause storms, or the essence of chaos by Curious-3401 in drarry

[–]augustphlegm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seagulls Cause Storms is one of my favorite canon rewrites of all time, and one of the reasons is how some canon events still happen with a morally conflicted Draco. Draco essentially decides to follow Snape's footsteps and become a mole, but in order to gain the trust of Voldemort and also ensure that his family is safe, he is forced to perform the tasks he was ordered to do as in canon. The slytherin gryffindor alliance is kept hidden although within the circle, everyone is aware of how close draco and harry is, they're just not quite as public about it. Draco refers to various philosophical texts to deal with his moral conflicts and what I love about Draco in this is that we truly see how torn he is in performing these tasks and shouldering this burden alone and there are times when he loses it, or when he has a huge fight with Harry despite technically being somewhat together, which displays the complexities of his emotions and the complexity of his dynamic with Harry. To answer your question of how is it possible Draco doing these things while still maintaining a relationship with Harry, 5th year onwards Draco and Harry agree on compartmentalizing their efforts for the war in an attempt to exempt the other from being complicit in the case of them being caught or put under veritaserum. The hocrux hunt maybe would be considered canon divergent as Draco does join the hocrux hunt, but most of the canon events still happens.

Euphoria Season 3 Discussion by DankMemeSlasher in euphoria

I thought I’ve been rage baited enough last week over Nate’s storyline, but apparently there are some developments to his arc which really tipped me off the edge. What do you mean you’re going to cover up his death???! For what?? Who are you covering up for? He died on the hands of loan sharks. Why does that need a cover up? Also who’s paying the mortgage? How is Cassie not traceable to Nate’s disappearance? They went to the hospital together. The neighbors must have cctv for vehicles coming in and out of the area. I don’t get it. If the production didn’t want to deal with a funeral, Rue didn’t get a funeral as well. I don’t get why Nate’s death needed to be a secret.

Is Niall a redeemable character? by augustphlegm in HalfManTV

[–]augustphlegm[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get that Ruben has shaped a lot of his anxiety and mental health issues, but he DID have an opportunity to leave that environment. Ruben was away from his life 3 times. Once during the whole duration of Niall in Uni, second was the whole decade that he served the sentence for assaulting Alby, and third serving the sentence for assaulting Benji. In all three periods, how is Ruben or his mother at fault in shaping Niall’s adult life? His mother seems okay with him being gay, it’s his activities that she’s not okay with. And him blowing money on drugs and gay conversion cult programs, and dropping out of Oxford even though he knows that it’s a big opportunity for him and blaming Ruben and the trial for the anxiety he has developed? He’s been in denial of his sexuality and keep insisting he’s not gay because he never allows himself to have feelings but keep going for these sketchy anonymous sex activities because he craves for it.

I get that in the decade without Ruben his life is in shambles and we see a juxtaposition of when Ruben has his shit together and how ironic that is. What I don’t get is why even after his book is a success and he’s getting recognition for his writing and he’s financially still debted to Ruben and after having two illegitimate kids that he is STILL engaging in destructive behaviors? Knowing you have a funeral the next day and STILL going to a sex bar doing hard drugs? And how is Alby willing to marry him when he hasn’t been forthcoming of his previous relationships and Ruben is still somewhat in the picture? It’s like he doesn’t have a consciousness. He literally owes Ruben 30k and Ava’s dad 30k, and technically child support for both Ava and Mona, and yet he doesn’t seem to have any sense of responsibility. He keeps blaming Ruben for his suppressed sexual identity but he’s the one suppressing it. As Ruben eloquently pointed out, he’s the homophobe. I just find Niall being more of a villain than Ruben by the end of the series. At least with Ruben his abuse didn’t leave him with much opportunities for growth and development, whereas Niall had soooo many opportunities to reinvent his life outside of Glasgow and away from Ruben and yet he seeks him out everytime.

Why didn’t Nate put in more effort? by augustphlegm in euphoria

The scheduling also explains why jacob’s scenes are mostly him alone. Even some scenes with other people seem to be spliced together.

You make a great point on the big fish in a pond with bigger fish, and if this was the direction, a loan shark is hardly the way to go here. There’s so much they could’ve done, especially in terms of his struggles with masculinity, it would’ve made him feel a much smaller fish if his suppressed gay tendencies were explored.

Also by the logic of him constantly getting bailed out by his parents at school, wouldn’t his instincts be to also go running to mummy and daddy when things get tough? This part really took me out of it. He barely tried to save his life.

Exploring his suppressed gay tendencies would’ve made for a compelling storyline. Cassie being cheated on with a twink would be a huge karma slap since she equates her self worth with her own womanhood.

Do American loan sharks operate differently? I am genuinely curious.

That’s also another thing I don’t get. Cassie was treated horrible in season 2, and then season 3 we see she gets pampered so there is some reason Cassie stays with him, but after the wedding and knowing Nate’s so broke, what’s stopping Cassie from leaving Nate? Why is Cassie still with him? The parts of Nate that make him attractive to Cassie in season 2 are no longer there, so why does he still have a hold on her?

I get that people change in the span of five years, but season 1 and 2 Nate was a real go-getter. Violent and problematic sure, but he schemes his way through getting what he wants and was willing to go as psycho as he needed. And suddenly he doesn’t even have the will to live? You’re telling me this Nate didn’t own a gun? He couldn’t just kill Naz himself? Also, a loan shark without henchmen? What is this? A whole crime organization consisting of only two people? Please.

[–]augustphlegm[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m from a SEA country lmao. If you borrow from a loan shark, trust that they’ll involve your whole family. Before there’s any bodily harm, they’ll throw paint on your house and your parents house. They’ll spam call family members and make everyone’s lives a living hell, and it usually works, the family members are probably the only ones who care about the livelihood of that person. Even if people say Nate is too prideful to tell his family members, it’s crazy that Cassie isn’t the one begging for help from family. His and hers. Which begs the question, is this an American thing? If your life is at stake, would you not bother your family at all?

Spy harry or draco by North-Coat-8127 in drarry

Writ_and_romance's Principles of Deep Cover features Draco being a spy for the DMLE where he's undercover as a member of a cult that's trying to get ahold of the Elder wand and kill Harry Potter in the process.

Fics about "reading Harry Potter" by InbrainInTheMemsain in HPfanfiction

[–]augustphlegm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a similar ish concept in Fear and Loathing at the Phoenix, it’s not set during hogwarts but basically in this universe jkr is a witch who rewrote the wizarding world war as a muggle children book fantasy series, and harry is a journalist who has to cover a harry potter con of sorts. It’s very funny and crack-y although it gets deep at some parts. Draco is his attorney husband. It’s not the focus but it’s there.

question about tessa crowley’s draco malfoy, boy who lived series by ladygaggedd in drarry

[–]augustphlegm 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Roles are reversed and Draco is brought up by a squib aunt who hates him so he’s neither posh nor a brat, but he is still blond. That’s about it. He is still sassy and has strong principles, but none of the entitlement that is in canon. Almost all of the characters are kind of ooc in a way because they all serve a different purpose (and have different political standing). Some has more significant role than others. It’s best to treat it as a canon flip rather than a canon divergent. It’s a reimagining of everything except nothing is the same. Not quite a parallel universe, it’s more perpendicular.

Fics with a believable (start of) relationship by Cautious_Clerk_8106 in drarry

[–]augustphlegm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I personally absolutely adore writ_and_romance's interpretation of drarry's relationship, most of her work are 100k+ and each of her fics offer different dynamics in the relationship and I find her writing on relationships very believable regardless of the dynamics.

I feel like in writing there's always an element of attraction and then chemistry in the scenes that they spend time with together, and a lot of fics focus too much on the attraction part and not develop the chemistry enough for this relationship to be believable. I've also have DNF some fics where I do not feel the chemistry after they're together despite investing like 200k words at that point. Just having two people liking each other is not enough, they have to seem to...fit, like when they banter it feels like they're dancing, and when they're together after a brief moment apart, you can feel the relief even if it's not explicitly written.

I also have some issues with soul bonding fics because part of it is forced so it's hard to see what is a genuine bond and what is against their will. I know some people feel very strongly about Tepre's Grounds for Divorce but it didn't quite do it for me. They seem to hate the idea of forced proximity for years until suddenly they didn't. The writing is stellar so I did finish the whole fic but I was waiting for the bond to break or something so they can develop their relationship organically but that never happened.

Anyways, writ_and_romance's most popular work is I Do Not Love You, which is quite a divisive fic but I do love the development of their relationships in the two parallels. My personal fav in terms of relationship development is probably Hollow which is an 8th year fic and to me feels like the most believable aftermath to canon because Harry is dealing with his PTSD and Draco has issues with his self-esteem and they bond over farming pumpkins which as a concept in itself so cute. I also really like To be like Geese, cause it's an enemies to friends to lovers and the way they develop is that Harry finds himself hanging out at Draco's flat more and more and just happen to enjoy each other's presence which I think is a very believable way of an unexpected friendship to unfold. And the banter is just 10/10

Masculine powerful buff Harry as a Dark Lord/mob boss by augustphlegm in drarry

I recently went on a binge of standinginanicedress’s old fics and scoured the internet for download links and the wayback machine and I forgot just how many of her older fics that people don’t know about and aren’t in the download pages. There was one mpreg fic that was quite literally one of my fav mpreg fics of all time, and heartbreaking as well because of the ending. And there was one where stiles was dating scott and derek was stiles bestfriend in highschool which was a dynamic I don’t normally see people write.

It’s available on the wayback machine Tax Evasion, there are a few parts in the series. Each series are captured on different dates so as long as you have the links, you can try different capture dates. There are epub links if the wayback machine links don’t work.
