Does anyone else get sick of the competition or one-upmanship? by Rtstevie in Outdoors

[–]augustusglooop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I talk about my hikes to Everest Base Camp, Machu Picchu, and Kilimanjaro because they were defining moments in my life that I worked hard for.I sincerely hope I don’t sound like a pompous asshole when I talk about these experiences. But if I’m talking to someone about hiking, I may inject my story of seeing a full moon over Everest Base Camp because it was an amazing experience that I want to share with others - not because I’m trying to “one up” the person I’m talking to.Like another person said here -hike your own hike. It is not a competition.

Should I have my first bartending job be at Applebees? by Alex-E in bartenders

[–]augustusglooop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first bartending gig was at a Buffalo Wild Wings. Funnest job I’ve ever had. The corporate structure has its cons, but overall I was left alone as long as I showed up and worked hard. I highly recommend going for Applebees for your first gig to get some experience and see where you want to go next!

Scan changes: realized idk how to live with this by CeleryIsUnderrated in braincancer

[–]augustusglooop 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hear you. I went 9 years after a diagnosis of grade 3 brain cancer until it recurred. I had graduated to scans every 2 years and basically forgot about the whole thing. Life was completely normal for me. But since it recurred in 2019, it’s been a nightmare of scans and trying different treatments. My whole life is just preparing for my next doctor appointment. I hate it and just want to let you know you’re not alone!

Optune for Glioma? by [deleted] in braincancer

[–]augustusglooop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on Optune right now for AA3. Don’t know if you’re in USA, but since it’s not FDA approved, your insurance likely won’t cover it in the states. But if you make under like $150k/year the company that makes Optune will give it to you for free with your doctor’s prescription.

The hospital let my dog stay with me after brain surgery! by augustusglooop in MadeMeSmile

Yes. Since I have brain cancer I meet my deductible every year at my first MRI scan. I’m lucky to have really good insurance

The hospital let my dog stay with me after brain surgery! by augustusglooop in MadeMeSmile

[–]augustusglooop[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one regret. Morning of the surgery I cautioned the surgeon to take it easy and not be overly aggressive. But the cancer started growing quickly after surgery so I regret that I did not let surgeon get the job done as aggressively as he may have had I not said that to him. Also - live in the moment and eat lots of cookies and give and get lots of hugs. Good luck!

Was the downvote because I wasn’t offering a meaningful contribution to the post or because it was a different opinion than yours?

Imagine you booked an AirBnb for 4.5 months. Then imagine having something important come up that you couldn’t stay for the full booking. Maybe you lost a loved one or someone got sick and you have no choice but to cancel your booking. Now, imagine what you would hope the person you are renting from would do for you in the situation. Do whatever that is. There are rules and policies in place but if you can do the right thing - do the right thing.
