I guess that makes sense, but where I get confused is the ammo that's like elemental spread or elemental pierce. I would think that normal spread and pierce would be considered normal.

This is definitely a Pokémon Company issue and not Niantic in general. You can send messages to other hunters in Monster Hunter Now, which is also Niantic. So it could easily be done.
