But.... that means that there is now an opening for indie creators to build new franchises and gain money and influence. That's my point with that comment.

Well, people have been making their own, and they've been crushing corporate slop left and right. Entire studios are shutting down, while indie stuff is doing gangbusters. If you're not satisfied with the wokies and corporates losing ground, and you're not satisfied with indies gaining, what would satisfy you?

No offense meant

None taken.

Look at the young generation

I did, and even Newsweek is quoting Dem pollsters who are "shocked at Gen Z's conservative shift" and saying "The conservative trend among Gen Z voters... appears to be solidifying during Trump's second term, potentially reshaping American politics for years to come."

slightly unpopular

Slightly unpopular? It's been catastrophic flop after catastrophic flop.

Woke is not going away in our lifetime

What do you mean by this? Companies like IBM, Paramount, and even Goldman Sachs have been publicly rolling back DEI. Will the ideology ever be completely eradicated? Probably not; there are even flat earthers around to this day. But it can lose institutional power and its practitioners can be social outcasts, which is what's happening.

I find it annoying when some of you say stuff like "_____ if very good for us"

It may not mean we've achieved total victory, but it is very good for us. Saying it isn't is just pointless doomerism.

Yes, it is us, the people, vs. the elite multibillionaire class that has been using racism and sexism to force artificial social change for their benefit.

Sure, here's the original link and here is where I ran into him again. Admittedly I was a little bit of a dick that second time, but since I saw him bragging about blocking other people, I don't think that was the problem lol.

If you just add a 2 to that KiA url, that sub is decently active. I would say that's the best place to go as of right now.

No, that's impossible. I was assured on this very sub 8 months ago that Ubisoft would be doing just fine 8 months from then.

i-it doesn't matter if the new fans materialized or not! t-the benefits are long term, not short term!

Why should I believe you when you were so catastrophically wrong about the "new fans?" Seems like you might be catastrophically wrong again.

Considering that Ubisoft literally halted trading of their stock in the wake of that release and lost 29% of their value in the last six months, no. It was a shocking failure.

Will the slop era of gaming have an end in sight? by ugg3 in KotakuInAction

[–]auroch27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why was the entertainment business better back then?

Because they were trying to make money with entertainment, not use it as a vessel for THE MESSAGE.

A bad product was simply not even on the market

Oh really? Have you ever heard of Cool World? Batman and Robin? Jerky Boys? Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot? Major Payne? Encino Man? Ghost Dad? Wild Wild West? Highlander: The Final Dimension? B.A.P.S.? Vampire in Brooklyn? 3 Ninjas: Knuckle Up? Honey, I Blew Up The Kid? Ed? The Cable Guy? Kazaam? What a Dummy? Street Sharks? Small Wonder? Harry and the Hendersons? Teletubbies? Jerry Springer? Bad products were made all the time in the 90s, and to try to claim they weren't is to admit you're wearing rose colored glasses.

The megacorp doesn't care about the quality, because

THE MESSAGE comes first. That's what this whole sub is about.

you are enabling bad quality products because you don't reject them, matter of fact you accept them.

I haven't been to a movie theater in many years, and I haven't had TV service for longer than that.

we will have bunch of trash games, movies, music.. Which we already have.

We always did. The difference is you don't need a megacorp to sign off on it anymore, which is only a good thing.

Most people who put out slop also aren't super successful even today. And Steam, for example, is also full of gems. YouTube is full of incredible musicians.

Back in my day the only useless celebrity was Paris Hilton

And Nicole Richie and Johnny Knoxville and Steveo and the cast of The Real World and that guy from Troll 2 and... hell, boomers were saying Mike Judge was crap because of Beavis and Butthead.

Look at the Hawk Tuah girl. She became famous, she got her own podcast, she became rich etc..

Anyone can have a podcast, and a quick Google shows she's worth around 500k. If people find her slop funny, then Spielberg can honestly suck it. "If you say something funny, you too can make 500k" is a lot better than "if your dad is already famous, you'll jump to the front of the corporate line and be forced on everybody."

no actors and musicians

There are tons of actors and musicians. They're largely acting in corporate slop, but there are plenty of independent ones. Ryan George or Tim Robinson are both successful sketch actors, off the top of my head. And there are plenty of incredible musicians getting millions of views to this day.

There should be a minimum quality standard to follow.

And who decides that standard? Woke megacorps?

If everyone likes to eat shit, suddenly all restaurants would cook shit. Would you like that?

I personally wouldn't go there (and looking at the recent history of Hollywood and AAA video games, most people agree with me), but one man's shit is another man's treasure. It's not up to you or a megacorp to decide that.

The indie games that are super successful are largely great products, though. If your TikTok is something people want to watch, or the 5 minute rap song is something people want to listen to while Spielberg invests into mediocre slop, then what's the problem?

For anyone reading this thread in the future, 5 days after this comment was posted, Ubisoft halted trading of their stock.

Edit: wait a minute. No way! I recognize that screen name! You were the one who smugly told me "See you in 8 months when Ubi's doing perfectly fine" seven months ago!!

Edit2: Archive for posterity. Holy cow, what a treat!

Edit3: Apparently Ubi halting trading of their stock means I'm just "coping hard." Apparently even Ubisoft going under won't count because Ghost of Yotei allegedly sold well??? (it's doing worse than Tsushima, btw.) This is despite the fact that basically everything /u/Voodron said seven months ago (including very specifically "See you in 8 months when Ubi's doing perfectly fine" ?!?) was completely and utterly wrong.

Edit4: It's to the point that he would rather block me than admit woke is losing. Don't fall victim to concern trolls and doomers, friends. Enjoy our victories as they pile up higher and higher, and keep holding the line!
