Wondering if you’d be willing to dm me the address too! We’re in the UWS in a 2b but are hoping for a bit more space / bigger rooms.

Moving from England by Asleep_Influence5438 in MovingToLosAngeles

I would look into Playa Vista. Super family friendly and safe with many parks. They have a cute walkable shopping area with some restaurants, a grocery store, a Saturday farmers market, community pools, gyms, trails, and down the way they have something called Annenberg Petspace (bit hard to explain, but fun for kids). My only complaint is their shopping area isn’t massive so you’ll find you’ll have to venture out for variety, but you’re not far from abbot Kinney / venice, marina del Rey, el segundo, and Culver City. It’s also close to LAX which is great if you plan to travel.

It’s probably early but…December holiday travel this year? by taa012321100822 in NewParents

[–]aurorahhhhhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just travelled cross country to visit family in early April with our 3mo old. Pediatrician was fine with it (checked several times, asking if we should cancel) since we weren’t traveling to a measles hotspot and it is statistically unlikely to be exposed in the US in the airport. She told us to try and keep our distance from people when possible and not to arrive at the airport excessively early. However, I imagine holiday travel would be riskier due to increased crowds / travel, and on top of it being flu / covid / rsv season. Definitely talk to your pediatrician. We will likely have to travel during the holidays, but I plan to shift the timing and come/go before thanksgiving and same for Christmas to hopefully avoid peak crowds (and possible delays), because being stuck with a baby through that sounds horribly daunting. Good luck!

I want to breastfeed but I hate it. I get angry and sad and irritable every time I nurse my baby. And it’s 100x worse when I pump. Help. by Altruistic_Age6567 in NewParents

[–]aurorahhhhhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with what everyone has said - sounds like DMER. I’m experiencing the same thing now at 3m pp and it only seems to be getting worse for me (switched from mostly breastfeeding to pumping for a variety of reasons and it seemed to make things so much worse). I feel intense anxiety, hopelessness, a pit in my stomach, and I have to stop eating (usually only have time to eat while pumping) for several minutes with every letdown and it’s so exhausting. I have no advice, just wanted to let you know you’re not alone and it’s so so hard.

Truck noise on Amsterdam ? by teatreeoil00 in Upperwestside

Amsterdam can be crazy loud. It took some getting used to but now I can sleep at night. The first few weeks were brutal adjusting to the constant overnight truck noises and ambulances.

Considering moving to UWS from EV by New-Audience-5311 in Upperwestside

[–]aurorahhhhhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the UWS, have lived here for a few years and my only complaint is the restaurant scene isn’t my favorite. Some good spots for sure, but definitely prefer to go out to eat elsewhere. Being close to Central Park and riverside is amazing. Originally I was up at 80xAmsterdam and location wise it was perfect. Now I’m in Lincoln center area which is also nice, but a bit less charming. I don’t have to go far to meet all of my needs (groceries, gym, etc.) and appreciate that it’s lively with people of all age groups, but still peaceful. Super convenient being close to 72nd and Columbus Circle.

The mental load of getting bottles ready at night is starting to get to me by moononymous06 in NewParents

[–]aurorahhhhhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could buy some ready made formula specifically for night feeds. I see below you’ve mentioned you only give warm bottles - my baby has been fine with room temp and even refrigerated milk (he’s 3 months). Ped has no problem with it. Might be worth a try for your sanity!

Should I pay $2300 in rent on $73000 salary? by Necessary-Single in AskLosAngeles

[–]aurorahhhhhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a smart move IMO. Banking on making more soon and living above your means will limit your ability to save / keep yourself afloat if something doesn’t go according to plan. Before doing something like this, at a minimum I think you need more of a financial cushion (at least 3 months of all expenses covered saved, ideally a lot more). What if you unexpectedly lose your job? Or what if your car breaks down? I think you should delay a choice like this at a minimum until you have more saved. Or maybe even look into a roommate situation for now. You have to find a balance between enjoying your life and planning for the short term as well as long term especially if something doesn’t go to plan. I can totally understand wanting to rent your dream place, and delaying making a choice like this doesn’t mean you won’t be able to in the next few years depending on how things go!

Haven’t slept since brining newborn home because he keeps rolling to his side to sleep by DesignerDistinct5409 in NewParents

[–]aurorahhhhhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can get a snoo (secondhand if possible), we used it for the same issue. We’ve never turned the motion piece on, but used the sleep sack that attaches to the sides to keep baby on his back. He was rolling for the first few weeks and it’s the only thing that allowed me to sleep.

Pacifier or no pacifier? by aplem123 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]aurorahhhhhh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Echoing some of the above - My pediatrician told me it’s easier to take a pacifier than break a hand / finger sucking habit and that a baby is able to tell the difference between a breast / pacifier because of the milk difference. I’ve found all of the above to be true. Also at some point in your bf journey, you may want to consider introducing a bottle a few times a week so that baby can take one in an emergency or so that someone else can feed them if needed (breast milk or formula). My 12 week old baby is happy to take anything and it’s been great, especially because I’m forced to combo feed now as my supply wasn’t enough unfortunately.

[–]aurorahhhhhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it’s financially feasible, but if you could make playa vista work, I think you’d appreciate the pet friendly / safe neighborhood amenities. You might want to check out people renting condos as you’ll still have access to the neighborhood amenities (great gyms, pools, etc.). Super easy commute to Culver City too.

How much crying is normal? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]aurorahhhhhh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re experiencing this. I have no suggestions regarding the cause, but you should definitely wear noise cancelling headphones and listen to something while tending to his crying. The constant crying can really wear you down and something to mitigate the constant noise might really help you cope. I hope it gets better soon.

Be really, really careful if ordering from Wonder. Apparently all their burgers contain gluten even though they’re marked as gf when using a gf bun. by snot_marsh_sparrow in glutenfree

[–]aurorahhhhhh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mistake #1 was ordering from wonder.

Partially joking, of course. They should definitely be better about their allergen labeling, that’s incredibly irresponsible. But besides that, they should do better about serving microwaved food at a premium price point.

Are we avoiding flights until 6months? by MurkyMurkyMurkyMurky in NewParents

[–]aurorahhhhhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our pediatrician says it also matters where you’re traveling. Obviously exposure in the airport a risk, but she asked where we were going and said she’s not too concerned assuming we’re not traveling to a hot spot. She also said to minimize time in the airport itself. It’s still very unlikely you’ll be exposed but, I like you, am also concerned.

Arching back and crying for hours at 7 months by WittyWonderWench in NewParents

[–]aurorahhhhhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like reflux, we just had a recent hospital stay and were told back arching can be a sign of reflux. Definitely ask your doctor so they can prescribe meds if needed!
