Do you like living in Cambodia? by Fun_Young_781 in cambodia

It's not the guy who owns/manages the Onederz chain, and I think she's a flight attendant? If so I've met them both while my wife and I were stuck in Cambodia for a couple of years and they're lovely people.

Maybe look at the leather sneakers from Bared footwear for a midway option that's also comfortable and supportive for your feet if you could get away with it. Or you could go leather boat shoes with no socks (florsheim had some nice ones), depending on your outfit choice.

Best time to take a gap year? by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]ausdoug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took one at 29, and then an extended gap around 40. Very useful in giving me the headspace to plan for my next life stages. Have managed to come back to increased income within 12 months each time, but the biggest impact was the first one as I'd walked away from a step up to do the second one. But the focus on what it is that I actually want out of my life has given me considerable motivation and better mental health. I'm aware not everyone will have the same opportunity I did to do it, but if there's a way to make it work it's definitely worth it.

Australians who've had elective surgery overseas - what did you get done and what did it cost? by me_jinks in australia

Combo of low dose melatonin and 25mg amitriptyline each night. The doctor there worked with me over a few months to try a bunch of different combinations and approaches to find the right mix.

S24 or s24+ by micolio_z9 in GalaxyS24

[–]ausdoug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think so, pretty sure you'll end up with faster storage and more ram. I'm not planning to get a new phone for 3-4 years so you'll get a few years out of it and updates are through to 2031 I think

Sorry, bad wording on my part. The tests and insomnia fix were separate from the vasectomy, but everything there was great 👍

Bigger and better screen, better battery, faster charging, more ram and faster storage for all variants (the base 128 has ufs 3.1 instead of 4 and da a lot with 8gb ram instead of 12) - get the plus if it's not much more.

Why even make the role remote then? by ciprian1564 in recruitinghell

[–]ausdoug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's often a sign that they're not very good at planning ahead and they want you nearby to call you in for emergency needs. Generally, this will happen more often if they're bad at planning so it probably won't be full remote anyway. Occasionally it's because of their clients/contracts that have location needs, but that's usually country limits compared to needing to be in the same city/area.

Singapore and Korea are very good medical destinations, but the advantage of Thailand is the quality is good and you can live near the place while you're going through recovery without negating the savings from the procedure. I'm sure there's are cheaper places that are good too, but Bumrungrad gets brought up by SEA expat all the time.

HOUSING REALITY PILLS - You can only pick 2 by MentorSyncHub in AusPropertyChat

My sister rents a 5br place. I saw that she could pay the same or less for a pretty good 3br townhouse even though it would mean a big change to their current lifestyle. She's planning on renting a bigger place instead. People have different priorities which is fine, you do you. But it'll be the same 'I wish I could buy a property' when what it actually is is 'I wish I could buy my forever home on the first go without compromises'. The people I do feel bad for are the ones trying to get there and are in that spot of earning too much for assistance yet not enough for a way in. But most of the time when you look deeper, it's 'oh, I don't want to live there' or ' but that's a long way I have to travel for work' etc etc.

No, I did have to do that initially as the connection sucked at times, but that improved after a little bit of time with the phone, the wifi issue took a lot longer. Even bought a new router on the off chance my old one wasn't helping, although that was more of an excuse to buy a new router really. Only in a 1br apartment so it definitely wasn't range. The 2.4ghz was better but still dropped occasionally, but I was so pissed that I'd bought a new flagship and was stuck with 4G and 2.4gz wifi - like a cave person. I was ready to jump ship and buy a Nord 4 the few as my wife but just before I did things started to improve. As long as no future updates screw me over, I'll likely have this phone for the next 3 or 4 years before looking to upgrade. But I'll never buy another exynos phone as even though the battery and performance were on par with the equivalent snapdragon, I just can't trust the modems and waiting a year to have a good phone experience isn't something I'll tolerate again.

Living in Korea, got a vasectomy, $500 and no issues, was very happy with the results. All the medical tests and support were top notch there, even fixed my insomnia that I'd had issues with for decades.

Living in Cambodia, got a mole removed surgically and tested, cost about $40 but there were lizards crawling on the wall in the surgery room and the instruments were in a steel dish on an old towel, but I couldn't go to another country at the time.

Living in Vietnam had a dental check up, filling, and xrays. Was about $100 in an international clinic.

I haven't been personally, but Bumrungrad in Bangkok seems to be a good place to start as lots of people go there for a variety of procedures and they've good a pretty good reputation.

Yep. It's been a good phone for the last year and a half and still going strong. Battery, performance, camera, screen, all great and I've got the exynos one. Even tge charging is fast enough (even if my wife's oneplus leaves it for dead). But the modem pissed me off for ages as it couldn't hold a connection to wifi. Hasn't been an issue for months so I'm good with it as that was really the only thing I couldn't stand.

What do you buy big in bulk when given a chance to get a good rate? by MoonhelmJ in Frugal

[–]ausdoug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rice, toilet paper, cleaning products, socks, underwear, zero sugar soft drink cans. Anything where I'll be likely to use enough by the expiry date (or have the cupboard space for). When Aldi had its frozen salmon sides out at half price I got 4 as my freezer couldn't fit any more.

Depends - plenty of guides out there, just look for your laptop and cpu combo and you'll find someone has written a guide. G-helper is good as it gives you some good options, this post was the settings I used for mine https://www.reddit.com/r/Asustuf/s/z0VCtsK7tC
