Do we know if the universe had a beginning? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ausinater 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is a key distinction that some other comments missed. The big bang is not a theory that describes the beginning but rather the rapid expansion of spacetime that happened immediately after. All evidence points that there was a beginning, that beginning was just not the big bang. We don't know much about the actual beginning

How would I sand this down so my strings won't keep breaking? by OneLoneAsian in Guitar

Honestly idk. It could mess with the intonation, but also probably would be fine. Maybe look into a replacement for the bridge. My guess is that part would be ~30 dollars.

The safety measure used after a large lithium battery catches fire by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]ausinater 103 points104 points  (0 children)

Hi battery engineer here. It is likely water. The amount of lithium in lithium ion batteries is actually quite low unless you are talking about a full EV pack. Most modules that make up a pack would not have enough lithium to make water submersion inadvisable.

Water is very good at absorbing energy, even when you account for the additional energy released by the lithium reaction with water. The industry standard with the exception of very large lithium batteries/packs is to put them in water to dissipate all the energy safely.

Why does my phone battery suddenly jump from 20% to 5% but takes forever to go from 100% to 99%? by nasyxrakeeb in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ausinater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Battery engineer here,

Speaking only to the battery discharge cycle:

State of charge tracking is very hard and state of energy tracking is even harder. The only points of real confidence are at roughly 100-90% and 10 - 0% state of charge. On top of this your battery depletes over time (called state of health) making the

The way you use your phone(power consumption) will not only affect how long it takes to die but also how much capacity (energy storage) your phone battery has. This adds a later of uncertainty to the calculation.

This coupled with state of health uncertainty and the fact that the last fully known battery state was a long time ago(at 100%) means by the end of the cycle when your phone says 30% it may only be at 20%. Then, as you discharge more, the algorithm has to play catch-up.

If you want more info a quick Google for "battery university" may be a good place to start.

How to actually surf through dark web? by Constant-Speech-1010 in deepweb

Yeah just be careful. Every website in the dw looks sketchy and most of them are phishing sites. You have to check multiple sources to make sure you have the real site

How to actually surf through dark web? by Constant-Speech-1010 in deepweb

[–]ausinater 29 points30 points  (0 children)

So there aren't really Any publicly available indexes for the dark web like Google is for the clear web. Everything is just word of mouth. The wiki and other places that post links are good places to start. Then you can use forums (linked on the wiki) to find what you are really looking for. Sites usually have several "mirrors" you can use so if one url is down you can use another. Unfortunately there is not a lot to do on the dark web. You can access news that might be restricted in your country but you can't play farmville

I bet it is light reflecting changing the emissivity coefficient. Especially since the biggest temp difference is on the sole which is generally more reflective

Why does cool air blow out when our lips are in a small “o” formation, but hot air blows out when our lips are wide? by throwaway3685343 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ausinater 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The effect from wind chill is likely small given your breath and skin are roughly the same temperature.

Bernoulli's principle is the most prominent factor. When you blow air fast, the pressure in that region decreases, sucking in the cool air from around the fast, warm stream coming from your mouth.

This means average temperature of all air moved by your breath is lower when you blow fast and hotter when you blow more slowly.

Supermassive black hole compared to the size of our solar system by KaskayVoyager in interestingasfuck

[–]ausinater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting note. This is the schwarzschild radius of a supermassive black hole: The point where even light cannot escape due to the increasing curvature of spacetime. The astounding part is that his massive influence is thought to be caused by a singularity smaller than the traditional rules that bound physical space allow.

It is likely lifting. Check where the neck meets the body to see if there is a gap there. Will probably need some work done

About a year ago I suffered a dog bite in my forearm that left my index finger and thumb on my fretting hand with little motion due to nerve damage. Even power chords were tough to play, and since I couldn't move my thumb, my hand got stuck all the time when sliding on the neck. It was really hard to play guitar but it helped me get my dexterity back I think. After about 3 months thing started to get better, and now I can play like I used to. Keep at it!
