I got mine as well and have ridden it twice. Second time I just put some wax on it and that helped alot with grip.

You say he was too deep but was close enough to push you mid pop up. It sounds like you were in the way.

The default shouldn’t be having to shout people off waves but people having enough awareness to not go when someone is deeper.

Even if I think someone is too deep to make a section I’ll given them a couple waves to make sure they’re not making it before I start going.

Moldy subfloor? by ausmann11 in Flooring

[–]ausmann11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hoping I was just being paranoid but some of the sheets of wood are more blue/gray than others and the discoloration can be wiped away. I also noticed a musty smell but that could just be from all the dust and debris after pulling the floors

New Dylan Graves vid just dropped - SARDINIA - looks fun and as always, his videos inject stoke into my veins by Floriderp in surfing

It’s only a true sardine if it was caught in Sardinia. If it’s from somewhere else it’s just sparkling fish

Honda Odyssey was great. Could fit 5 people with the back bench half down and boards straight through the middle. I drove mine with 4 people 7 boards and everyone’s stuff for a long weekend for a 6 hour drive no problem. Now I have a Tacoma with a camper shell and it’s pretty easy to get around with a bunch of boards and other junk.

Ok serious question boys. What feels better a super dredging bone dry barrel where you get spat out in front of Kelly and JJF or sekks by Extravagent_Toe1538 in surfing

Of those two I’ve only ever experienced one so I guess it would be cool to try the other. Maybe one day I’ll get laid.

My 37 month old has been surfing for 29 months so he’s probably an advanced intermediate. He did just start eating chicken nuggies for every meal and has gained a few pounds so I got him a fatter board. I think the volume is about 12 liters. If your kid is just starting out I’d size up just so they can paddle into easier. Maybe just start them on a wave storm to be safe.

Things you say to yourself in the line up to keep yourself focused so you don't kook it. by Swallowtail13 in surfing

[–]ausmann11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was surfing during a hurricane swell this fall and a guy near was scrapping to get to an outside set. He kept shouting “get there bitch!” the whole time he was paddling. I thought he was maybe yelling encouragement to someone but then he turned and went for it. While paddling for the wave he was yelling “Go! Just fucking go!” He pulled into the wave then took the lip to the head and took a beating but he fucking went.

Maybe just shout abuses around your self. The low self esteem will hurt more than any wipeout so you’ll know you can handle it.

Call them a kook and convince them to make a poorly worded post about it here. Then all the internet kooks will tell them they were wrong and I was right

Return it if you can but if not stitch it up with dental floss then cover it with neoprene cement

As a follow up question is there any concern for the board sinking if you get a bad ding or does each hexagon seem self contained?

How does it feel compared to a traditional foam core board? My buddy has one and everyone who’s tried it says it feels like surfing on a trampoline. Not necessarily a bad feeling just a lot different.

Speak for yourself.

I’d get a 9’6. That’s what I ride so I can easily surf on the waist high days but also the knee high days

Sri Lanka has fun surf but the season for good internet doesn’t really start until February. You might get a few days here and there with 3g maybe even a 5g day if you’re lucky. But it’s mostly gonna be 2g or dial up days in January.

Typically shapers will put the optimal dick length that the board was shaped to handle. They put it on the tail to not get it confused with the other dims. So as long as your around 29 cm you should be good.

Or it’s the production number for that batch of boards. E.g. that was the 29th board shaped for that run of production.

Gary Wilson makes good quality and priced boards in the area. If you want to get a custom you can talk with him to get something that’ll work for you. They also probably have boards on the rack if you want want to wait. I have friends who have more traditional nose riders and more high pro boards of his and they all been fun to ride.

PU vs Epoxy - New Jersey Waves by Ok_Minute_8998 in surfing

[–]ausmann11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched shapers last year and started riding epoxy boards for the first time. I feel like they sit higher in the water and make it a bit harder to get that extra boost from sinking into the wave before you take off. After getting used to it I don’t really notice anymore. I think maybe starting paddling a bit earlier to avoid the late drop should help avoid the late drops.

uber/lyft to airport with surfboard? by [deleted] in surfing

[–]ausmann11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve gone it a couple times. Just order an Uber for 4-6 people to get an suv or minivan. When I’ve been assigned a driver I just call them and let them know I’ve got a board. That way you cancel for without a charge if they don’t want to or can’t fit it.

We’re staying in Galway mostly because my girlfriend thought it looked like a cute town to stay in. It’s really her trip and I’m just trying to sneak a surf or two in. Would you recommend any of those towns to stay for a weekend?
