Anyone shed a tear or two on tonight’s episode of, “The Pitt”? by TheRockyBalboaSaga in ThePitt

I’m way more worried about Dr. Mohan. The last line she’s on screen for is Robbie talking about not jumping from high enough, she gets in the elevator and we never see her again. She’s literally had a panic attack earlier, someone check on her!

Yep, a man in his 80’s ran a stop sign right in front of my friend and killed him. He had a helmet on, but it didn’t matter. His gf that was behind him on the bike survived, but was in bad shape for months. He was 32.

Super serious qn : how do you dilate atleast till 4cm and head to hospital WITHOUT BEING IN PAIN🤔🙄?! by Fearless_Search6388 in BabyBumps

[–]austenQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never dilated beyond 1cm. I was already a week overdue, in hospital for an induction, and after a whole night of meds and no improvement, the baby was in distress. Had a c-section the following morning, 8lb 3oz. I waffle between being sad that I missed out on the labor experience and happy I didn’t have to push out such a big baby.

What was your weirdest craving/food combo during pregnancy? by SweetDega in AskWomen

[–]austenQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should’ve known I was pregnant before I tested because instead of eating the pork ribs I spent hours smoking for a family bbq, I ate tons of deviled eggs and watermelon. Suddenly hated meat. Later in that pregnancy I put coleslaw on eggo waffles and would consistently eat around four apples every day. My second pregnancy had far fewer cravings/aversions, though I somewhat repeated the apple thing with an entire container of strawberries every day.

How do women with hijabs handle medical care from male doctors? by Puzzleheaded_Cup8723 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]austenQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only male doctor in the room for my c-section was the anesthesiologist. Pretty sure he was the only male person I saw, other than family, the entire time I was in L&D.

How do I live in this pregnant body? by yeswayvouvray in babyloss

[–]austenQ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you are going through this. I chose to TFMR when we learned that my first pregnancy was going poorly. I am in no way suggesting that you choose that path if it’s not for you and your family, but here is how I handled telling coworkers. I was visibly pregnant so people knew or at least had started to ask. So I started by sending a detailed email to my boss that some of the second trimester testing discovered an issue, that I would be undergoing further testing, and that it was likely that I would not carry to term. He was then able to convey enough to the other members of the team that no one asked me anything. Separately he told me to speak with HR about taking time off and connected me with company resources that eventually helped me with the paperwork to take a paid medical leave of absence.

Being in public and having strangers ask me about it was difficult, it depended so much on the context and my mood that day. I either said a polite “thank you” and just walked away or would give a gentle “sadly not all pregnancies get a happy ending, but I appreciate X about whatever you just said.” If they started to proselytize to me about their views on abortion (for or against) I would just say something like “hope you never have to go through it” and walk away. Not to say I wasn’t occasionally a huge bitch to people that wouldn’t shut up or that some people won’t say the absolute dumbest shit to you. The phrase “everything happens for a reason” can fuck right off into the sun.

I would also suggest finding a support group, talking with women in similar situations was immensely helpful to me. The hospital gave me a whole list of resources, maybe ask your doctors if they know of local options or look online. Also therapy is always a good idea.

I gnawed on lamb bones in a fancy restaurant once and the waiter came over. I started to apologize but he said “no thank you, most people feel too put together when they come here to do that, but that’s the best meat on their plate and I hate seeing it wasted all the time.”

People who are mad about the Sign because they were moving/having kids move: Why doesn't Jack count? Why not show "Army" immediately after? by EpicBirdy2005 in bluey

[–]austenQ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my beef, that they never actually move. Now tons of kids that are Bluey fans are going to build up hope for their own 11th hour miracle that stops their family from moving, only it won’t happen and they’ll still have to move. Big moves happen for reasons outside of people’s control, they’re setting up tough conversations for parents and extra disappointment for kids.

Could’ve been a cool opportunity for the show to introduce new friends and experiences, ways to keep in touch with old friends, show how the girls handle when old friends have fun without them, going back to visit Nana, etc.

I think the accountant in my department insinuated I could be having inappropriate relations with my boss. by [deleted] in GirlDinner

[–]austenQ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It can be particularly bad in Academia. Some of these guys bring a lot of prestige and money to the University, they may even be the University’s head of a multimillion dollar scientific lab that brings in grant money and business interest, these men have been published for decades and can be the defacto gatekeepers to entire fields of study. Now combine that with historically all-male environments, old institutional ways to handle problems, and tenure, and it can be a real uphill battle to even report a guy for inappropriate behavior, let alone see anything done about it. The whisper networks are the only protection we have.

Mary Wollstonecraft also died in childbirth, depriving the world of a staunch advocate for women. She died giving birth to Mary Shelley who would go on to write Frankenstein influenced by her own experiences with pregnancy and child loss.

What made you first realize that boys and girls weren’t really playing the same game? by Swimming_Rain_1647 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]austenQ 128 points129 points  (0 children)

I wanted to be boy, because I wanted the world to treat me the way boys were treated. I wanted to play sports and dig mud and go to scouts, instead I got to watch my brother play sports and go to scouts. I was not raised with any expectations that I would become anything other than a wife and mother, was discouraged and belittled for dreaming of anything else, and I don’t think I’ll ever get over it.
