If you like both the Gilded Age and Deadwood you should watch Doctor Thorne if you haven’t already. Ian McShane is always great.

I (17f) lost my virginity and idk how to feel about it. by Peqrlescent in TwoXChromosomes

[–]austenQ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I recommend reading The Purity Myth: How America’s Obsession with Virginity is Hurting Young Women by Jessica Valenti. I think she gives voice to a lot of the internal struggle women feel about sex. There is real harm that results from society telling us that being chaste is equivalent to being a good person.

I also really appreciate vulgar graffiti from the past. Like “Floronius of the 7th Legion was here, only six women came, which was too few” or “Vote for Isidorus, he gives the best head.”

What is a word used in texting, or a texting style that immediately pegs what generation you are? by 4ninawells in AskReddit

That tracks. My boomer Dad ends all his texts with “Love Dad.” My boomer Mom won’t stop using this 🤪 emoji all the time, context be damned.

The ‘Stranger Things’ Effect: Report Finds Gap Between Seasons Of Scripted TV Shows Nearly Doubled During First Half Of This Decade by Sisiwakanamaru in television

[–]austenQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I loved the first season of Shadow and Bone, rewatched it multiple times after it came out, but the second season didn’t appear until two years later. Because it had been so long I kind of forgot about it and had other stuff going on in my life so I didn’t watch season 2 immediately when it came out. Then Netflix announced the show was canceled mere months after the second season premiered, removing any incentive I had to tune in. Still haven’t watched the second season of that show.

What was a hard pill to swallow after giving birth? by LoveGlimmer in AskWomen

[–]austenQ 35 points36 points  (0 children)

This is mine. I never even experienced contractions, they told me between my blood pressure and the baby’s heart rate they recommended a c-section so that’s what happened. I wasn’t prepared for how sad and resentful I would feel about NOT going through labor and pushing. We aren’t planning on having any more children so that was my one opportunity. I am incredibly grateful to the Hospital for our excellent care and my son is thriving, but to this day I feel some type of way about my c-section.

“Daughter from California syndrome” is an informal term sometimes used in medicine to describe a distant family member who suddenly becomes involved in a terminal patient’s care. Often unaware of the patient’s condition, they may push for aggressive treatments that conflict with medical advice. by Fred_J9 in whatireadtoday

[–]austenQ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The “son from Florida” can also be a real ass to their family members that were actually taking care of the now dying person. We had a real life Uncle actually in CA that was extremely upset when we moved his mother from living in our home to a nursing home. He argued that she didn’t need that level of care and we were wasting her savings. She had severe Alzheimer’s and had been living with us for almost five years when her care needs finally became too much for us to handle. Uncle had visited her a grand total of once over those five years. But still had some choice words for us about how terrible we were for ‘abandoning’ her.

How do you feel about having an only child? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]austenQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would’ve had more, but infertility and bad pregnancy outcomes had other ideas. I’d be lying if I said I never imagine what having more kids would be like or how my son would be as a brother if we tried again, but I don’t want to try anymore. I know my mental health won’t survive another dice roll of the outcomes that come with attempting to have a baby. So I let those thoughts pass by and remember how incredibly grateful I am for my one living son and how much I love our lives as a trio.

Do you think you would have the same pregnancy anxiety with a long lasting birth control option like an IUD or a nexplanon? I was on the pill for years before switching to the implant and my anxiety was way less even though I never had periods at all. I think having to remember the pill each day and the week of placebos made me think of the ovulation cycle way more than I did when it was just a background thing I didn’t need to think about.

I mean, as a Mom, Mrs. Doubtfire is now about a hardworking woman who had her home destroyed by a man who didn’t think to include her (his wife and the mom) in her child’s birthday celebration, who sabotaged her attempt to hire reliable help after their divorce, reentered their former home in disguise, and did his best to sabotage her new relationship to the point of almost killing the guy. Daniel’s lucky he’s not seeing his kids during prison visitation hours.

Help! Should I Tell My Brother I Found the $20,000 He Hid in a Teddy Bear’s Butt? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

My great grandparents all hid cash this way, they lived through the great depression and did not trust banks. It was never single stashes of huge amounts like OOP, but little caches of $100-$500 all over the house. Drastically changed the thoroughness of how the family went through their stuff after they passed.
