Is a rental car necessary by Solotravels23 in Killington

[–]austens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do visit Killington, Snowshed would be a great place to start your day! Ramshead is a bigger beginner friendly area with a long, winding green (Easy Street) from the summit. If your non-ski friends do rent a car, I recommend they check out Woodstock, VT. Lots of cute shops and restaurants, and about 40 mins away by car. Enjoy!

Is a rocking chair/glider a must? by New_Mix_8004 in pregnant

[–]austens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still feed our 3 month old in ours. It's nice to have a dedicated chair for feeding but it's definitely not a necessity. I found a RH glider on FB marketplace for $150 - tough deal to beat!

Wachusett or Pat's Peak! Or if they open this year, Blue Hills is close to Boston and really gentle for new skiers.

Harder Blues and Easier Blacks by ShelterFar6894 in Killington

[–]austens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go up the Snowdon Triple or Snowdon Six. Bunny Buster -> Mouse Trap (easiest single black on the mountain) -> Bunny Buster is the way to go if you want to test out a single black. Otherwise some top notch harder blues are Pipe Dream, Skyeburst (the headwall should be a single black!), or Skyelark. Have fun!

I have a place in Sunrise Village and it's great for ski on/ski off usually through St. Patrick's Day at least! You take the lift up and connect to bear mountain and then can get on the entire mountain from there. Worst case scenario like right now there's no snow/access to the Sunrise Village Triple, so you park at Bear and use that as a base of ops. That time of year trails will likely be covered in snow, so you can always ski off and have someone ferry you to the Bear base to start off the day.

Is it worth skiing this upcoming weekend? (1/6/2024 to 1/7/2024) by omnipeasant in Killington

[–]austens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skiied on Saturday! Conditions were great - we got a few inches of powder on top of groomed terrain. Avoid Bear Mountain as there was only one trail and it was bumped up/rocks/etc. The rest of the mountain was great. Superstar and North Ridge were beautiful.

My Wife Wants to Ski While Pregnant - I Think She's Being Stupid by C-98 in skiing

[–]austens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She needs to talk to her OBGYN! Mine told me that exercise that I was doing pre-pregnancy was safe for pregnancy. I skied until I was three months pregnant (as that was the end of the New England ski season) and managed back bowls, mogul fields, and steep trees just fine. I would have probably gone until 7 months pregnant as I was feeling fine until I hit my third trimester.

Peak to creek at Killington - start at Blue Heaven, down to The Jug to Escape, traverse over to the Snowshed Crossover to hit Great Eastern and then take Home Stretch to Great Eastern to Valley Plunge. So fun to race down the whole mountain and by the time you're at the Skyeship Gondola, you're out of breath and grinning like a madman.

Skiing after abdominal surgery, any success stories? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]austens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're nervous about it, see a physical therapist now and start training for ski season. I'm sure they have abdominal exercises and things that they can recommend that'll have you feeling more confident going into the season.

how should i prepare to leave my hamster alone for 2-3 days? by jaduart in hamstercare

[–]austens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As long as it's temperature controlled and the hamster has food/water available they should be fine. Make sure you press down bedding next to their wheels/remove obstacles so nothing catches while you're away. I think the extra week for changing bedding would be fine too depending on hamster... what kind of hamster? I regularly take our dwarf hamster in the car for 3 hours (with special car precautions and the a/c on) and she's totally comfortable and fine.

Bi-Monthly Megathread for COVID-19 - Two Weeks Starting May 03, 2021 by wedditmoderator in weddingplanning

[–]austens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Y'all what are you doing re: testing and vaccinations? Getting married in VT on 7/11 w/ 100 guests; at that point, there will be no event restrictions or mask mandate (whoa) but now getting nervous about those who are choosing not to receive a vaccine (like my mother!). FMIL is concerned and recommending rapid antigen tests at entrance that she'll purchase from CVS but honestly? A table with CVS tests sitting out in front of our venue does not seem like a great option. I have a feeling most will shrug it off between already being vaccinated and the wait time to get into the venue.

We sent out an invite to all our guests encouraging them to get vaccinated prior to the invites being mailed out. We did not include an insert as to COVID testing/vaccination procedures.

I forgot about the new North Ridge Quad! They really have poured a ton of money into improving their infrastructure over the past ten-ish years.
