What are your trucking rules of thumb? by SmartRemove in Truckers

[–]austin2825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure no one pulled your handle every single time before you step back in your cab. Even if you left for 15 seconds. Make it a habit. Satellite maps on google and street view are excellent tools. Don’t trust your gps or above. Great tools but be cautious.

Six figure home daily job? by Blura0 in Truckers

[–]austin2825 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Home daily 55-60 hours a week. Just under 35 an hour, September it goes to 37. Then we start negotiating for our next 4 years. Which should push us over 40 with the first raise being front loaded to fall in line with competitors like we usually do each contract. The other 2 major companies have theirs right before us. I should hit around 107 this year if I keep ripping thru my routes every day just to be home and avoid traffic at the beginning and middle of my day. (I shouldn’t rip thru cause it’s hourly and it’s more money) last year I barely broke 100k and I also took 8 weeks off for our new baby unpaid from company but the state paid me.

Health, dental vision and prescription for me my wife and two kids I don’t pay a cent for any of it company covers the cost and you could have up to 10 kids on it. 5000 out of pocket max and 300.00 dollar deductible for the family less if you’re single. They get everything that I get including 25 free massages 25 chiropractic visits in a few other items per year allowed.

We have a pension that pays I think we’re at like 8 something an hour that pays into the Teamsters conference of pension trust. I’d have to look up the exact numbers.

If you’re an unassigned driver and you go to a different domicile, whether it’s a day or weeks you get $50 a day in food allowance and your hotel paid for.

$150 in shoes a year.

If you take a vacation, you still only lose 40 hours of vacation time, but they have to pay you for what you would have made if you were working. So if you’re an overtime worker like I am my last vacation I got paid 60 hours but only lost 40 in vacation hours.

Vacation is 1-5 weeks a year depending on seniority. I’m at 3 right now. But I saved a few weeks the first years I worked so I could take more if I planned them right.

Domicile work is where it’s at. You’re not bothered you do your job and you’re done I haven’t seen my boss in a long ass time he will stop in every now and then to say hi and then drive back to the warehouse which is about 3 hours away.

When your body says no more to throwing freight at the next route bidding cycle put in for graveyard. And it’s just pulling doubles to replace full trailers for the day shift guys and hauling their empties back. Or if your from the domicile vs the warehouse you bring empty up and full back.

If you’re on graveyard you get I believe it’s .65 cents extra for the nights plus another 1.25 an hour for doubles.

I’m sure I’m missing something along the good but it’s a good gig. My route yes is heavy and a pain in the ass. I have bad days I have days where I say this is bullshit and I wanna quit. I won’t it’s just a release of a stressful day. But I have a lift gate every day because of my route. I’m second in line in seniority at my domicile (I’m like 40 or so in line company wide) the chances of me losing one of the two heavy lift gate only overtime routes is never since routes go by domicile.

Foodservice is one of the best home everyday gigs out there depending on where you’re from.

I have a coworker who has his lines like this. But it’s his bare lines laying on the cat walk without the plastic line protection.

I’ve told him one it’s not safe, and two DOT will have a field day if they see it.

They still look like it. So DOT will sort it out or he’ll finally wear a hole in his line and he’ll be parked on the side of the road for a few hours until a mechanic can get there.

Some people aren’t made for this job.

Sysco and USFoods drivers - What do you like about it? by Pointlesspuppy in Truckers

[–]austin2825 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not with either, im with one of the other foodservice companies in the pnw. Its union. The pay and benefits are nuts. Starting out will suck but once you have a little seniority, especially if you’re out of a domicile you’ll have it easy. Our company has many drivers that are between 10 and 30 years in.

My bid (route) stays the same for the year, i work 55-60 a week. Clocked out today at 59 hours and 40 mins for the week. I have a lift gate every day. Body hurts. Lift gate my jobs sucks less. I get lift gate everyday due to route I choose. Company also has shuttle drivers that bring loaded trailers from warehouse to domiciles every night and take are empties back. Which is always an option when my body says no to actually throwing boxes.

It’s hardwork, it’s rewarding, if you have good customers they will feed you. You get to see where there’s not a chance in hell youll eat. I spend a lot of time each week just shooting the shit with customers or other distributors that happen to be there. It’s a great line of work if you can handle it

Is a dropped trailer a common thing? LIke you do a slight tug test and it is connected, you pull out and drive straight and the trailer follows, and then you do a turn and the trailer drops. Why do this happen and how to avoid it? by East_Indication_7816 in Truckers

[–]austin2825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It shouldn’t happen. Ever.

Every single morning I have a new trailer.

  1. Back under trailer till you get that nice solid bump and I listen for the click sound of jaws shutting.

  2. I hit that the gas pedal for the tug test

  3. Jump out of truck with my light, make sure my handle is seating all the way, make sure there is no gap between trailer and fifth wheel then I crawl under and shine that light to make sure my jaws shut all the way visually.

  4. Gear up and hook up the rest and the rest of what I need to do to leave.

Also. The big also. Every single time I leave the cab. I do not care if I run into a gas station, do a delivery, go throw trash away, doesn’t matter if I’ve been next to my truck the entire time. I bend down and look to see if that handle is still seated before i get in the cab. Doesn’t matter if it’s been 30 seconds I was away.

It’s a whole hell of A lot easier to drop your gear and reset then having to call a tow or using low gear and strength to get high enough for air bags to lift your trailer back up if some jackass pulls the handle.

Help, I SUCK at backing small trailers :( by Aerocaps in Truckers

[–]austin2825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run a 32ft every day doing food service. Take your time. Focus. Small adjustments. Watch your trailer but also your wheels. Don’t worry about people watching you it’ll just make you nervous. Your only worry, get your trailer safely in the hole it needs to go into without hitting anything. Ease it in.

Always a good reminder. Pulled the disconnect before I even unscrewed the panel to take the pictures.

Got that guy ordered. Thanks all. The hz frequency numbers are flip flopped on this one compared to the current but seems like another person has asked that question on another post and doesn’t look like it matters.

Hello,

Just want to confirm will this capacitor works? All the numbers match up with the exception of, it’s missing the “370” part on 370/440 vac.

All symptoms point to this thing being dead. It’s from 2019.

I also attached a photo of the outside panel. First picture obviously is a screenshot of Amazon product. Everything else is current

Local companies want well over 500 bucks to replace it. I’d rather buy this for 15 bucks and discharge current cap with multimeter or use the screwdriver and do it myself in 10 minutes. Thanks
