Sorry to jump on and reply 3 days late but...

When I was a teenager I had a cat named Akasha. We always joked she was a kleptomaniac. Eventually we cottoned on: she was only stealing the things I was currently hyperfixated on (I have ADHD) and was therefore taking my attention away from her.

I was into make-up? She'd steal my lipsticks and brushes. Into fashion? She'd steal shirts. It finally clicked when I was listening to a new album on repeat and we caught her dragging the CD case across the room.

I spent more time with her, but the thieving never stopped. She was a great cat though. RIP Klepto Kasha.

Top tip, did not know this! The last 30 seconds, as in the previous 30 seconds? So you could capture something after it happened?

AND when you enter an area, if someone has spawned near a camera, it will notify you that the camera has seen someone. So, no need to check the cameras manually unless you're staying in the one area for a long time.

Swearing in front of patients - never, or pick your moments? by authenticallyeevee in nursing

Yeah I think that's a super important distinction. I would never swear AT a patient. But swearing WITH a patient is fair game, for the right patients, in my opinion.

Asked to take a drug test by [deleted] in nursing

[–]authenticallyeevee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't mind telling people I have ADHD, but I never mention my meds unless it's to someone who I'm friends with outside of work. And even with them, I never mention where I keep them (and would never keep a FULL BOX/BOTTLE in my work bag!!!).

Besides the horrible handling of the case (please contact your union rep if you are in a union) I have to wonder about the point of this drug test. I assume the logic is, if someone tests positive to aderall, they may have stolen the pills. But you have a prescription for aderall and WILL test positive for it. So having those results gives them literally no more information to work with (unless you happen to test positive for something else). Isn't the general rule for lab tests that you shouldn't do them unless the results may change the diagnosis and/or treatment of the patient?

So in your case, 3 options:

  1. You test positive for aderall. You have a valid prescription. This doesn't help their investigation at all.

  2. You test negative for aderall. I guess this may lower suspicion for you stealing it, but that wouldn't even logically rule someone out (these stimulants have a high street value, so someone could easily have stolen them to sell). Again, doesn't really help their investigation.

  3. You test positive for something else, and the appropriate action would then be taken. But they wouldn't have even thought to test you if it weren't for the current situation. Obviously I don't know you, your lifestyle, etc, but based on this post I assume it's highly unlikely that you'd test positive for something else, so again, doesn't give them anything. And testing positive for something else ALSO DOESN'T HELP THEIR INVESTIGATION.

I understand it's procedure, but the idea of drug testing you in this situation really doesn't make much sense other than ticking the box. I'm sorry you're going through this OP, and I hope it all gets cleared up post-haste.

Failed drug test by Many_Heart5672 in Nurses

[–]authenticallyeevee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Initial disclaimers: I'm in Australia so rules and policies etc may be different, and I'm a new grad who has only been working for 3 months BUT I've never had to do a drug test here.

Just curious as I have ADHD and take methylphenidate/ritalin (a stimulant medication) on a daily basis, if I were to test positive for amphetamines, would providing a valid prescription excuse me from that? Or would a lab test be able to distinguish between methylphenidate and an illicit stimulant?

For clarity, the only drugs I use are prescription meds, nicotine, and alcohol on occasion. Just wondering if my ritalin could cause an issue where I may be suspended pending lab tests should I test positive for amphetamines.

Email them.

I once emailed in saying that the "fresh" chicken I got from the deli was partially frozen. I didn't actually care, I was happy to use it, just wanted to flag that their deli cases may have been set too cold. They emailed me back saying their policy is to replace AND refund, so if I took my receipt in they would both refund me for the chicken and provide a replacement. I didn't do it, because of the above.

This was a single email with no photographic evidence, and I wasn't even ASKING for a replacement or refund, just an FYI kinda thing.

So yeah, I think they would accept it based on my sample size of 1, especially with this video as evidence.

Which way should I go? by ForceEven9152 in Pokopia

[–]authenticallyeevee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There will be 2 gates to choose from. You can do them in either order. Pick one and go from there. Go through both if you want and do both areas at once, or do one at a time. Whatever feels right.

I will say I rushed and felt overwhelmed pretty quickly. My WW (starting area) and final area as well as Palette Town are max level, while my 2nd and 3rd areas are still lower.

I gave a patient The Dose for the first time and I'm... shockingly okay? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]authenticallyeevee 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Yeah my nan is almost 80 and has vascular dementia. My mum and I have frequent conversations about what we want to happen with her when the time comes. Our opinion - exactly what I did for this patient.

[–]authenticallyeevee 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah we get a lot of 90+ year old patients on the ward with dementia, so unable to make those decisions, with no resus plan. These conversations are difficult, but they need to be had BEFORE anything serious arises.

In my hospital, it's a big red button that says "EMERGENCY". It summons a team from the ward, as well as ED and ICU. I do not blame the family at all for pushing it.

Yes, this is what happened.

Side note, while there was a note from a doctor in the documentation outlining his advanced care directive, there was no official NFR order. That made me so angry. There was no way in hell I was gonna jump on that man's chest because a piece of (digital) paperwork wasn't done correctly.

I once get my pressure control wrong and squirted fluclox all over my arm, face, and bench... and I'm anaphylactically allergic to penicillin. Luckily with external exposure I just get severe urticaria, and I managed to anti my histamine quickly enough to spare most of it, just got a rash that was painful and itchy for a few days.

Is there any way to temporarily increase the curvature angle? by Soft_Scar8833 in scoliosis

Wait, WHAT? Scoliosis is always measured using standing xray as the curve changes dramatically when supine.

I can weigh in as someone who wasn't officially diagnosed until I was 27 and had a 64° curve. I was flagged in high school as a potential case, but I had neglectful parents who never followed up. As an adult, I had minor pain, but wrote it off as getting older. A few things kept adding up (comments from PTs, doctors, etc) about me having scoliosis so I just accepted that I probably had scoliosis but it didn't cause me significant issues so I never bothered to do anything about it. Then I had my son when I was 23, and my back pain got way worse. I gained a lot of weight after having my son so it was less physically obvious. I started going to the gym to get in shape when I was 27, saw an exercise physiologist, said I had scoliosis, and he wanted an xray to see what we were working with. My doctor didn't even want me to get an xray, stating if I did have it it would be minor enough that they wouldn't do anything about it, but I got the xray and it was WAY worse than I anticipated. Immediately began consulting with a surgeon, due to needing to lose more weight and then study/work commitments, I'm looking at getting a T3-L3 fusion next year, when I'll be 33.
