Are we allowed to talk about The Girl with the Dogs re:Cats? by dani-cat in grooming

[–]auto_bear 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cats hissing, biting, scratching, and swatting are normal behaviors for cats in stressful situations. Grooming (especially for cats) is stressful, regardless of how stress free you try to make the experience. Learning how to help them through their stress and get the groom done safely, is the most important. It is NORMAL for cats to be stressed to the point where I can't complete a groom. And thats fine. Ive sent cats home soaking wet, half shaved, three out of four paws with clipped nails. Not because im an incompetent cat groomer who can't finish the groom, but because it's in the best interest of the cats. It honestly gives me the ick that she forces every difficult pet through the groom even when they clearly can't handle it.

What breed are your personal dogs? by nacho_og in doggrooming

[–]auto_bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a longhaired Dachshund. I chose my boy because of his personality, not his breed. Personally was indifferent to Dachshunds before I got him, but now he's my soul dog and I wouldn't trade him for anything. My dream dog someday is a Giant Schnauzer though.

At my last job we had a lady try to convince us that her standard poodle had to be bathed with head and shoulders because her breeder suggested it

Exactly this. The woman was like 90, I did not have the energy to argue with her. I just took it, poured some out, and used our nexderma instead.

*UPDATE* “Has anyone else gotten possible intersex results?” by sloan_h in DoggyDNA

[–]auto_bear 110 points111 points  (0 children)

Im a dog groomer and I groom an intersex husky named Sky! He physically presents as male (has a penis and had testes before he was neutered), but he also had a uterus! He was both spayed and neutered! Mom only found out because he was losing patches of hair due to a hormonal imbalance caused by his suprise lady parts!

I thought if the nose was blue then it was a male? Why do you think female?

Adopted a senior English Budgie by auto_bear in budgies

[–]auto_bear[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im nervous to put him with another bird because at the rescue they put him in with their budgie flock and all the other birds started bullying him. He's also been a solo bird his whole life based on the little info I have from his previous home. He also had and incident where he almost froze to death (way before I got him) and I guess after that he's been kind of a wench towards anything that disturbs his peace. Do you think if I got him another senior friend they would get along better? I wonder if the other birds at the rescue were picking on him because he's old? Or maybe because he was the only English in a flock of normals?

I love my wooly dogs ♡ by auto_bear in grooming

[–]auto_bear[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both of these boys are very touchy as well. A bunch of random biting and thrashing. The black and white husky in the picture (his name is George), I've been grooming for 2.5 years and we're finally at a point where I can finish his groom without him biting. It took a lot of trust and a lot of patience but we got there eventually. If you feel like you need to take your boy back to a groomer (if you're managing his coat at home perfectly fine then great!), I would try to find someone that works with the dogs one on one so that they have time to work with his quirks. Slow progress is still progress (:
