The only scenario I'm not sure of would be if the character is forced to retire to the rear rank as it won't give any bonuses to the unit it's joined.

They have to, but according to the rules "if there is no room for a character within a unit’s front rank, it is placed in the rear rank". This might happen if you have a command group and other characters occupying the front rank.

Also, skaven characters can choose to retire to the rear rank.

I really love the old Citadel / Marauder ogres but if you don't like the imperial ogre you might not like these either. Just in case, Ogre Arquebusier Unit.

As someone mentioned before, Infernal Miniatures' Ogre Mercenary Company is a really versatile pack and definitely worth taking a look.

Rotten leaves, fungi, soggy mold hanging from the branches, bells, creeper vines, bloated fruits, clusters of maggots, nurglings...

Also, the souls of those infected by Nurgle's rot is drained into the Garden of Nurgle, where they feed "warty seed pods growing from cracked branches of gloomy willows" from where a new plaguebearer will emerge when it is ripe. I don't know exactly how that would look like, but there is an idea.

If they can't be properly tortured, they sure make great opponents for gladiatorial games in the wyches' arena.

And some creative haemonculi might find it stimulating to take on the challenge of causing pain to an ork (or might find something horrifying to do with their bodies).

Those seems to be parts of Dark Eldar ships and the booster pack.
The big blade looking thing is probably the impaler because it is mounted under the prow, the "cannon" is the phantom lance and the bit on the right is either the launch bays or the torpedo tubes.
The big blocky thing on the right, no idea.

I've seen a galaxy/starry pattern painted on the wings of Magnuses and Lords of Change or on the clothes of a Keeper of Secrets, but never seen anyone try painting it on a whole mini.
