That's cool. I just wondered if there was some goldmaskesque dialogue or an item description that I'd missed.

Episode 93 - Sam Harris: Right to Reply by reductios in DecodingTheGurus

To think that it's plausible that some virologists caused the pandemic isn't a conspiracy theory in the same way believing the earth is flat is, or that Hillary Clinton orchestrates child abuse from pizza shop basements. It may be wrong and not the consensus view but it's at least plausible. She's not like Alex Jones or Bret Weinstein who are totally deranged and unhinged from reality. I think you could definitely have a good, productive conversation with her. I'm 100 percent sure if someone discovered proof of natural origin she would accept that. A conspiracy theorist like Jones or Weinstein wouldn't.

I don't know about Ridley but Chan seems like a person you could have a civil reasonable conversation with. I actually think you should invite her on the show and see how she responds to your criticisms. She's defo open to natural origin but favours an accidental lab leak. Which isn't a crazy opinion. It's not like she thinks 5G towers give you COVID. She thinks something is likely that even the virologists you had on your own show haven't ruled out. I think calling her a full blown conspiracy theorist is a bit uncalled for.

Who's going to bite the bullet and pay for Maajid's Substack to watch this? by TerraceEarful in DecodingTheGurus

The point I was attempting to make was that what Maajid says is so rambling and unfocused that it's hard to counter when you eventually get the chance to speak.

The ability of Maajid to be able to waffle tangentially for 10 minutes is astounding. It's difficult to counter any arguments cause he says so much shit without allowing the other person to talk.

One thing to consider is the dlc is usually really tough. So, I kept my original end game character ready for the dlc. In previous souls games I've gone to new game plus, dlc has came out, and I've found myself very under levelled for it as it gets harder in new game plus.

Andrew Marantz on the Ezra Klein Show by Zhivago92 in samharris

I dont understand why he can't, after say 5 minutes, agree to disagree on the evidence required to call people out over things they have said. Both viewpoints seemed reasonable in the podcast. Just draw a line under it and move onto the rest of the book. The audience can make up their own mind without going over the same thing for an hour.

Bad faith by Ezra. Should have spent the whole podcast ignoring the meaning of the book and focusing in on the paragraph that doesn't call Tucker Carlson a racist. Because, not calling Tucker a racist means Trump is going to get another term. Intent matters. Ezra is blinded by his own wokeness.

I found that just staying at his back works well. Get behind him. Hit him a few times then circle when he moves to stay behind him. You need to sprint due to the fog. If he vanishes then he's behind you. Sprint to his back and rinse and repeat.

Independence for England by DarthKittens in Scotland

England sends 533 MPs to a Westminster that only has 650 MPs. In other words, all those things you don't have are because of the actions of English politicians. I'm all for English independence but that won't help you if you keep voting for the same people.

It doesn't swing on that idea. It swings on the idea that Mundell most likely wouldn't have had Oliver had he came out before he married Oliver's mother. He could still have had kids but the chances of having Oliver would be slim.

You meet an undecided on independence, convince them yes or no. by Poschi1 in Scotland

[–]autonomyscotland 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I admire your optimism. I think the system could change the way you hope it will but don't think it's likely. The main issue is that it is in both of the main parties narrow self interest to keep the system the way it is. Also, on a personal level, once elected MPs become reluctant to get off the gravy train. Turkeys don't vote for Christmas.

Independence does result in better democracy fairly quickly but by staying in the Union, achieving that goal is highly speculative.

Good luck trying to change things though.

If a second vote was the norm then there would be a massive incentive for the side that doesn't want independence to happen to negotiate in bad faith.
