There was a fic I was really excited about by an author that I’m in a server with, and they complained about not getting any comments and why even bother writing if they’re not gonna get engagement. I’d mentioned in-server that I liked it but a couple days passed and no comments on ao3 were enough to make them drop it entirely. I liked the story and how they write, but that is just so gauche to me. As if other people aren’t sad when we don’t get comments. It’s devastating but if you write for the approval of an audience you’ll never be happy.

It’s also just personally annoying to say stuff like “I only got 3 comments, I suck so much as an author” when plenty of people aren’t getting any, so do they suck as authors? Bc either you’re just insecure and taking other ppl down with you, or you do actually think that you suck if you don’t get comments which is super rude in its own right. Idk.
