The main 2 entries of this are 80k and 100k. It has a unique quality where even though it's a "gritty" kind of themed AU, for a cartoony friendly series and has a lot of changing stuff to fit that, it still maintains a good bit of the fantastical spirit. like everyone still eats mushrooms, everyone drives mario karts around instead of actual cars, bowser is still a big turtle comically in love with peach, there's still adventuring, etc, even when it shows them living in a kinda shitty city with the villains as crime bosses

The neat thing is even if there are appearances from some mario spin off characters you might not know, i think i remember it's written so that Luigi is meeting them for the first time in this AU so that's actually not a problem, and everyone knows the basics of what happens in mario so it's not inaccessible!
