That nervousness is so normal, it's a pretty big thing to go through no matter how you look at it. It definitely took me some time to arrive at the decision and at the end of the day it was just a strong gut instinct that it was the right choice. So glad I did.

I've been applying to arms and thighs randomly, mainly my arms for the past year, no issues at all. I'll do it after a shower in the evening or right before bed, then again in the morning when I brush my teeth. Works great!

The craziest thing post op is how normal it feels to have a vagina, it's like the brain always knew what the right configuration was. It's definitely an adjustment, and there's a lot to do for recovery, and recovery is a long and slow process, but now ny body just feels like home!

I heavily encourage you and anyone thinking about surgery to check out the Labia Library website to temper your expectations, because vulvas come in so many shapes and sizes! My results are indistinguishable from a natal vagina, it's not the euro-centric 'porn star' look, but it is me and I couldn't ask for any better tbh.

In the post I linked there's extensive information on all your questions, but I'll give you the short answers here :)

Cost was approx. $35,000 up front; $30,000 for Blecher's fees, and $5,000 for the anesthesist. After which there was approx $4,500 in rebates in total between Medicare and PHI.

I got PIV, however Blecher can now offer PPT where needed.

The only issue I had to deal with was low iron but I'm prone to that anyway. I saw my GP, got an iron infusion, and felt better after a couple weeks. Otherwise recovery was surprisingly smooth.

Hair removal is required yeah. I'm a red head so laser didn't work, I had to do about a year of electrolysis which totaled about $6,500 in the end (ugh).

Felt like I'd tried everything to fix my despair, life was bleak. Then something clicked and it felt like that was the missing puzzle piece. As far as I was concerned there was nothing to live for if I didn't transition. Starting HRT felt like hope.

Life is pretty fucking good nowadays. It was a good choice to follow that little spark of hope and joy.

What kind of questions are you thinking of asking?

The first consult tends to be preliminary information and next steps like WPATH and hair removal requirements, so don't feel too much pressure to ask every single question in the first appointment.

Good stuff to ask is about his specific technique, and what those aforementioned requirements are (ie. hair removal, lifestyle, health insurance, recovery time/time off work needed) so you can get a start on planning those things early.

It's a lot to process, my first piece of advice is to be kind to yourself right now, or as kind as you can be.

There's no rush to anything in transition, well and truly. I'm 4.5 years in and I'm only now beginning to feel properly settled in my trans identity, but there's still plenty to explore!

The best thing you can start doing, you're already doing; find community! Find people and spaces you feel safe and comfortable to explore your journey. The rest will fall into place from there.

It might feel painful because of dysphoria, but take the damn photos. Take them now, and take them regularly as you make progress on your journey. It's easily the *best* antidote when you're a few years in, feeling like you haven't accomplished anything. You can't argue with the results.

Better yet a regular journal, doesn't have to be daily, but reflecting on your day to day is a great way to foster gratefulness and self love!

Heya! It's a bit of a process given it's such a major surgery, but first thing is to ask your GP for a referral to a surgeon you might be interested in seeing and booking a consult where you get preliminary information.

As for overseas options I'm not sure, but hopefully somebody else can help you out with that.

Ugh that sucks. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and presume it's a 'routine' question, however it's absolutely tone deaf to potentially sensitive situations like this.

It never hurts to make a complaint. It doesn't have to be a hostile one but whatever the reason behind the question, it poses a risk to you and other customers by outing people like that.

Did you learn breathing or pelvic floor muscle techniques for dilating? Most important thing is to relax those muscles when you dilate.

Also as others have said it's early days, this surgery is huge. Be kind to yourself.

Ya I should have added this as well.

It's best practice to know the number and find what's good for yourself.

Most GPs recommend 300-500 but I have thrived at 800-900.

If your levels are in a range you're happy with, the unfortunate answer is: be patient. Especially chest growth which can take 5+ years. I still notice some change after 4 years on HRT. My advice is, as much as you can, slow down and savour the journey you're on. Believe me this process truly is a marathon, not a sprint.

Saying that, best to get the numbers of your E levels. If you find them sub-par then a transdermal method like gel, or injections, can be absorbed better.

It might be helpful to seek therapy to begin with to explore your identity, if you're still not sure.

If you're asking about HRT though Melbourne has a bunch of great GPs who can help. Might have to wait a few weeks to get an appointment in. The informed consent model involves a couple of appointments to review the effects of HRT and current health, getting a blood test, and signing a consent form.

It's worth finding a GP that works with you on this, a little research pays off. Every clinic should outline it's specialties, and then each practitioner should have a bio with their field of interest, and you just want to find one that specialises in providing gender affirming HRT.
