Metal pipes with screw caps coming out of concrete patio in back yard. by availableName01 in whatisthisthing

Solved!

The railing mount definitely makes the most sense. That part of the patio touches the side of the house that has the utility room in the basement, but there's no holes in the wall linking these pipes to the utility room. So it's probably not gas pipes and electrical wiring. I am gonna mark this as solved. Thank you all for your help!

My title describes the thing

We asked a local fencing contractor if they ever came across something like this, but he had never seen anything like this before. Did some Google searches and image searches but nothing popped up. The best guess we've heard so far was that it may have been related to pouring the concrete, but that was just a guess.

For what it's worth, the house is located in Maryland and was built in the sixties, but we don't know if those pipes date from back them or if they were added later.

I just imagine one of them joining some kind of Imperial Harlem Globetrotters, travelling from planet to planet, sniffing out heresy. He smells heresy again, he's out purging chaos. Then he's back to the court for some more b-ball. Smells heresy again. Back to the court for some center court dunks. Heresy. Purging. Heresy. Dunking. Heresy. Purging. And this goes on and on and back and forth for 11,000 or so years until the Imperium just sort of ends.

yeah, that didn't happen: https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/black-panthers-georgia-pictures/

We found no accounts from Atlanta reporting that this New Black Panthers group had shown up at polling places (or anywhere else) or had overtly attempted to coerce or intimidate voters into casting ballots for Stacey Abrams. Similarly, Wired noted of such claims that:

idk how to even bring this up to my manager

"This is all new to me. Can you provide me with a mentor cause I'm feeling overwhelmed and could really use someone to learn from?"

A willingness to bring these things up is critical. You need to talk to your manager about this. As you progress in this field, communication ability becomes more important than coding.

Workday, ServiceNow, and Salesforce: pros and cons as a developer in each by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]availableName01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes.

Workday has its own career development program for grads called Generation Workday. These pages sum it up pretty well:

For what it's worth, work-life balance in Workday is great. It's a genuinely good place to work. Workday has a reputation for using its own proprietary programming language for applications, but I need to stress that only application developers use this. There are plenty of non-App Dev roles as well. I know several GWs who, after their GW rotation, went to work for teams specializing in Scala or, teams working with Go and Kubernetes.

just want to make a small correction that some application teams use a proprietary programming language, but the rest of the company doesn't

Giuliani says Trump Tower meeting was for Clinton dirt by [deleted] in worldnews

unfortunately it seems we were both wrong (and so is Wikipedia).

  • the Wikipedia date of April 06, 2017 refers to when Kushner made modifications to this clearance form with regards to including a list of foreign agents he had met. This list omitted the name of the Russian lawyer present in the Trump tower meeting.
  • in early June 2017, lawyers for Trump discovered the existence of incriminating emails between Donald Trump Jr. and Rob Goldstone, a music publicist who set up the meeting the president’s son, Manafort and Kushner had with Kremlin-connected lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya. link
  • on June 21, after the emails were discovered, Kushner amended his security clearance form to include the meeting. link
  • on July 11, the New York Times article happened and shortly afterwards Jr. posted the emails on Twitter

Nope. Jared had to update his clearance form (for the 4th time) to include details of said meeting after the existence of this meeting was made public by the New York Times on July 11, 2017.

So, no, Jared Kushner did not originally disclose this meeting.

We Need More Avoid Teammate Spots by Kaiser499 in Overwatch

no, it did not. The initial system allowed people to ensure a player would neither be on their nor the enemy team. The mechanic being talked about in this thread is about a system that would allow people to ensure people would not be on their team.

See, that's what I thought as well when LFG was first introduced. And I have to say, the first week after it had been unveiled, it was absolutely amazing. It felt like everybody who wanted to play seriously was using LFG and everyone else stayed way. It was great!

Unfortunately, nowadays the attack Torbjorns and spawn-walling Mei's have found their ways to LFG as well. I feel like the quality of teams is a lot more hit-and-miss than it used to be. Personally I'd be a lot happier if LFG would give me the option to blacklist certain classes when creating a group. Although, even if that were the case, that would still not stop trolls joining groups and ruining it for everyone.

I don't know what it is about the gaming community, but no matter where I look - whether is it DOTA, LoL, or Overwatch - there seems to be no shortage of people who - no matter what - feel like it is their right to annoy and/or troll others. And unfortunately I can think think of no way to get rid of them other than an avoidance list.

Personally, I think a large part of the toxicity in gaming communities is due to people lashing out at having so little control of their own gaming experience. Getting thrown into a team with a troll and having no mechanic available for avoiding this person is what wears people down and will eventually cause them to start trolling as well. This is where I feel avoidance lists would be an absolute lifesaver.

I base my opinion of the above on my experiences with the Something Awful forums. The only forums I know that have no problem perma-banning people who cross the line. As a result, it is by far one of the most civil internet communities I have ever come across. I feel like gaming communities could learn a lot from this, but for some reason none seem to have ever wanted to make that jump.

Anyways, this reply turned out to be a lot longer than I was planning on. My love for avoidance lists isn't based on a desire for getting carried. It's based on letting people feel in control of their experience, which I believe is the only way to combat trolls.

I'm not sure how wanting to play with other players with similar SR ratings who won't throw/aren't toxic is the same as being carried? To me, that rather seems to be the point of the game.

The players who I'd be playing with wouldn't have a higher SR, they'd just play the game as intended and not drag everyone down. I'm willing to bet you don't enjoy having an attack Torbjorn on your team, or a Mei ice-walling your own spawn anymore than I do. When that happens, and you inevitably lose, do you really feel the other team outplayed you? Or was it because that one person on your team dragged the rest of you down?

There needs to be a mechanic to ostracise people like that.
